Something vaguely similar but kinda inverted, happened when I was in middle school.
An office assistant, like a TA, but for the main office, was dispatched to deliver a packet of course work papers to the class I was in.
The main office had the main, commercial grade printer in it, and this would have been like… 2004 ish? Computers were basically only in the computer lab, more primitive tech setup.
So anyway, the OA shows up and delivers the coursework to the teacher… and is confused by the complete silence in the room, the lack of anyone doing anything.
He remarked ‘… Did somebody die or something? Jeez’ and was now met with many intense, silent stares… he quickly exited.
Completely unbeknownst to the OA… about 15 minutes prior, our teacher had just recieved an email, took aside one student, talked to him for a few minutes. That student then quickly talked with his friends for about a minute, eyes tearing up, getting several hugs, and then presumably left to the school counselor office.
His one or two grade older sister had just suffered a complete cardiac arrest in PE, out on the track, about 30-45 minutes prior to the email… and died.

Oddly enough that isn’t quite my experience. I went to university immediately after finishing school and was pleasantly surprised at how civilized and mature everyone at university was, compared to just a few months ago at school, even though many of them were still teenagers. It’s something about the environment of school that causes so many young people to behave awfully.
i suppose a large part of the misery of school is because most people who go there don’t actually want to go there, so that sets it up as a place for suffering. which is different for universities, where most people who go there actually want to go there, which improves the climate by many orders of magnitude.

If their music is too loud to hear the fire alarm or other alarms. There were places that I worked that hearing an alarm would save your life. When I was a supervisor I should have said no ear buds, but that’s a bit ridiculous. So I only got on a person’s case if they had both in, a compromise. This way the teen sweeping can listen to their music and hear a hazard alarm if it happens. Workplace safety is important.

True, I’ve been in that work situation, where I didn’t fit in, and it was Hell. I got railroaded out of a job at a rural Southern hospital for making friends with a black coworker. I’m a white male. I was “warned” about my new friend by multiple older white coworkers, some department heads. When that didn’t work, I was consistently set up to fail by my boss. I thought about taking it to HR, and threatening to contact the ACLU and the NAACP, but I didn’t want crosses burning in my yard, so I quit.
And yeah, some people never make it out of High School. They’ll always be teenagers, emotionally.

Oh I did find such jobs, but then I managed to get asssulted in a mugging, lost my ids and cards and phone, ended up hospitalized, lost my job, got evicted, ended up homeless for about two years.
On the bright side of that, managed to get SSDI payments and recently set myself up with actual doctors after having to wait for the medicare application window thing, as well as… at least a 6 month lease at a roach motel.
Now I get to do PT for … 6 months to a year? And maybe I can walk without a cane again, and use my wrist for more than 20 minutes at a time without it excruciatingly seizing up.

I worked in all kinds of job, and from my experience, jobs that are blue collar or high school educated tend to have these kind of shit stirrers. It is like they are still in school and never grew up. But affluent professions are not immune to having assholes either. The more affluent folks are not into bullying and shaming people, but many of them are snob.
Similar experience, but for me it’s engineering company with only people with masters, vs sports association with full diversity of backgrounds.

Likely not real, but real talk, I love to bring a room to a very dark place as a joke with my friends, though, especially since I deal with a lot of scary topics in psych and politics and usually use it as a way to bring to real topics. I agree that there are vile men out there who still have sexual partners, but as is the case with all statistics, they can be true even if they can’t say anything regarding a single case. Those hateful people also are more preying on vulnerable women than having relationships, and statistically those men are seen as not desirable by women.
I believe that someone who does not want to have sex will have his or her reasons, and even if they don’t have one, it’s still fine for me, and i can understand where they are coming from. I, for example, had a lot of chronic pain since my teenage years, coming from a broken home where noone gave a fuck about me. With chronic pain you get depression (which is feeding back into the chronic pain, which is especially ugly), and depression, pain and antidepressants result in no desire for sex, especially when combined over decades. So, i am not one to judge someone by the number of their sexual partners, but i do judge behavior.
