There is a wide disparity between ethnic groups in the U.S. as well as gender. For example, an Asian woman is expected to live to 85.6, while for a Black man, the figure is 66.7 years.

Almost 20 fucking years! That’s beyond absurd, holy shit.

And the US lectures the world on human rights and admonishes countries for how they treat minority populations

Have you seen what white people eat and the average weight of white people and Asians in the US?

Also that number is a bit disingenuous, should’ve compared Asian women to black women, Asian men to black men (edit: not saying that black people don’t have a much lower life expectancy than average, just that it’s a dishonest statistic for the article to compare against which hurts its credibility)

Women live longer than men in every country because men are more likely to have heart issues and a bunch of other fatal issues later in life

Oh yea, idk my brain kinda short circuited cause I just woke up and the parent comment was talking about Asian women and black men and then I was responding to an asian and white life expectancy comment

I have no idea what any of us were trying to say tbh

Lol, imagine losing in terms of quality of life to a nation that you’ve embargoed and done everything to make their lives miserable.

That’s only because the namby pamby definition of “quality of life” doesn’t include key metrics like the ability to own automatic weapons and drive needlessly massive trucks.

This is an older article. In the meantime, China did overtake the US in life expectancy.

Also, IIRC, even if you compare it by wealth, the American 10% richest live less than other “developed” countries 10%. It’s like the whole country is cursed.

The life expectancy drop of black and brown people in the US since covid is actually slightly bigger than the drop after the toppling of the Soviet Union, the previous largest on record.

It’s still part of Cuba, but it’s on lease for undetermined term (to end it, both side would havd to agree or USA would have to unilaterally and completely withdraw). About jurisdiction:

Article 3 – Cuba retains ultimate sovereignty, but during the occupation, the U.S. exercises sole jurisdiction over the areas described in Article 1. Under conditions to be agreed on, the U.S. has the right to acquire, by purchase or eminent domain, any land included therein.

Of course as it is immediately obvious, it was an extortion and is really an occupation. Problem lies in that evicting the base would require military action and it would be a war.

Yeah probably. I guess it’d be more accurate to say there’s a mcdonalds located on the island of Cuba though technically outside of its legal jurisdiction, but that doesn’t sound as good.

one of those hidden value extraction mechanisms, or externalization of hidden costs onto society. a big mac has the immediate costs of materials and labor, but also the externalized costs, either manifesting in healthcare or shortened lifespan and decreased quality of life. not to mention the environmental damage of the meat industry and transportation and everything else

in other words these corporations are cashing out value from our future in the form of present profits. if time were flattened or all costs were somehow required to be paid upfront things like fast food would be a lot more expensive for corporations to mass produce.

Cuba better start a refugee program, plenty of Unitedstadians want it out already.
