I watched Midnight Cowboy(1969) last night which was great. But one line used the word “poop” and it got me thinking about the question. Do you know of an older movie that used the word “poop”?
I imagine something older, but where “poop” is used to mean “information/gossip.”
This makes sense too. It wasn’t used in the fecal sense in the movie I saw it in.
Technically Music Man (1962) is earlier, a character mistakenly says “Not one poop out of you” as a joke https://clip.cafe/the-music-man-1962/not-one-poop-out-of-you/
However if you allow usage like “I’m pooped” meaning “I’m tired” then you can go back further.
Also if you allow references to the “poop deck”, a deck on the back of a ship, you can find even older references still.
This is what I was looking for! But yeah I wanted the specific word poop independently - also nicompoop doesn’t count either.
But now begs the question: what is the first movie that used the word poop to refer to feces?
3 Men and a Baby (1987) features a baby and they mention poop (feces) multiple times. I can’t find any clips but it’s a popular enough movie that it should be easy to verify.
I’m sure there is an earlier reference, but that’s all I’ve got for now.
Of the top of my head, “Kindergarten Cop” must have one instance of poop.
