For example, the whole framing of the war was that Ukraine is defending western values and democracy against Russian autocracy. Then Zelensky cancels elections, and they were like, “well it’s war, you know, you gotta do whatever it takes” and “yeah they’re being invaded, you enact martial law, it’s what you do”.
And this is the pattern you see everywhere with these people. Sometimes they will just flip positions entirely without ever acknowledging it. Before the Snowden leaks, it was widely considered a conspiracy theory to believe the government was monitoring all of your digital communications. They’d be like “you think you’re so important that the government would monitor you?” and “if this was happening, someone would have leaked it by now” and so on. Then Snowden presented the evidence and they smoothly switched to “we always knew this to be the case”.
I expect a similar thing will happen with Ukraine when they’re no longer able to pretend that Russia is weak and losing. They’ll just flip to “yeah of course Ukraine could never defeat Russia, but with our help we stopped Russia from taking all of Ukraine”, or “we set up a government in exile”, or whatever it is they choose to spin as their big win. All the original goals will be promptly forgotten, and they’ll just move on to pretending that their new position is the one they had all along.
Indeed, it’s pretty funny when you ask libs to show Russian statements to substantiate the objectives libs assign to them, and they go oh well they won’t say what their objectives are. Then how do you know what they are motherfucker?!

Taking territory wasn’t even one of Russia’s goals, so them celebrating “Russia didn’t take all of Ukraine” is gonna be a completely moot point 🤷🏿♂️
