    Shift?

Firstly, nothing about Trump has changed in regards to their authoritarian tendencies. They’ve always gone as far as the institutions will allow.

The difference is that under Trump one, the institutions suffered severe decay. Following that, Biden and the Democrats did nothing to hold accountable, repair, reinforce or put in add additional guard rails. And now we have a system in a severe state of decay with Trump more completely aware that the system was actually always too weak to stop him.

An additional point however because making this about Trump or at least only about Trump is problematic. These outcomes are the direct extension and goals of the conservative movement. Nothing about them are unique or special to Trump, who, depending on what day you get them, doesn’t really seem to believe anything other than whatever glazes him personally. These outcomes are the stated and instated goals of Republicanism and the conservative movement for the previous 60 years. They always wanted to go this way, but they only found a vehicle to do so under Trump.

I put this out there because Trump will not last for ever and there can be no renormalization or rehabilitation of conservatism or Republicanism once he’s gone.

I would add that maybe we should pretty much drop talking about Trump. He is no longer functional much of the time. As with most dementia sufferers he has good and bad days, but he’s well beyond the point where we’d let our grandfathers live alone.

Also, he’s even more easily manipulated. So what group is really running the show?

THEY warned us about THEIR plans for 2025 in 2022. It would be like me researching and writing a report that definitively proves Guy-Am-I really does like green eggs and ham. How else would any one know if I didn’t write a report 60+ years later?

We couldn’t do anything about it back then, because we had to look forward instead of backwards. Besides, he was so unpopular when he left office in January of 2021. What are the odds that he could regain support of the base in the four years he spent shitposting from a Silicon Valley subsidized loudspeaker?

Honestly, I think you miss the real culprit of Trump’s return to power. Transgender people demanding civil rights, college students protesting US-backed genocide, and all those stupid idiots complaining about return-to-work policies during a pandemic are the real perpetrators of Trumpism. If democrats had just been allowed to pivot a teensy bit to the right to capture the Swing Trump Voter, we wouldn’t be in this situation.
