I was going to make a cynical joke, but this report was more explicit than I was expecting. It does feel like more and more of the Northern ruling class is realising that this project is no longer sustainable and, as Natasha Lennard put it, is now trying to future-proof its reputation by releasing these trifling concessions. Sooner or later, an antisocialist hack is going to pretend that capitalists were against this settler-colonial project from the very beginning.

Israel threw the west a real curve ball doing a completely unapologetic genocide without even trying to hide it. All the moral posturing that we saw over the past three years in Ukraine is now crumbling in the face of such blatant hypocrisy. All of a sudden it turns out that unprovoked wars are justifiable, that it’s fine to murder civilians by their thousands, to bomb infrastructure, and commit every atrocity under the sun. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to explain the contrast to the western public.

they’re just (mostly) afraid to use the real and easy explanation for now. even though the western public is absolutely ready to eat it all up.

(the real explanation would be us-foreign-policy but out loud)
