So I love this (at first unauthorised) remix of her acapella track on Solitude Standing. I had her first album on my Sony Walkman cycling to school every morning. She has a lovely voice and she is a great guitar player.
She liked the remix herself: “A&M asked me what I thought of it and I told them it was really kind of nice. So I said, ‘Go ahead and release it.’ I wasn’t expecting it to be successful—I never thought it would be that popular. It just seemed very charming."
I never realised that this version was a remix, it works so well. Great tune.
I was at a Suzanne Vega concert, and when she was singing Tom’s Diner, the audience sang “doodoodoo” in the places following this remix.
This interrupted her own vocals, and was really annoying.
I don’t like how the “duh-dut-duh-duh, dut-duh duh-duh…” loops. The end and the beginning are mashed together in such a way that the rhythm sounds inhuman and it feels bad to sing along with. There’s too much or too little space, just the wrong amount.
