Wait why? I thought we were trying to consolidate away from lemmy.world because it’s the biggest and we want to help others grow to its size, and there are lots of strategy communities not on .world. The other listed ones seem specific to subgenres, but !strategygames@sopuli.xyz is general and not .world.

(I have no beef with .world aside from it being the biggest when we’re trying to shoot for decentralization, in which case 20 big instances to choose from is much better than 1 big instance and a few medium and a bunch of small ones—if you strike down a big one, which situation leaves the most servers and content for everyone? It’s not .world’s fault and I have no animosity towards them. Just happens that they are the biggest so they really do not need any help right now.)

As you know, I’m also in favor of getting away from .world, but if people keep posting there, it’s their choice, especially if they are the only posters on a niche topic.

It would be up to UnchartedSectors to decide which community to settle in. Obviously the sopuli.xyz community would be better for decentralization, but if they really prefer to revive the LW one, it’s not that critical, especially now that Aussie.zone and LW’s delay issue is solved.

They could even create a new one on lemm.ee, that would be good too.

Hey there, honestly I’m not a Lemmy power user, I just posted in the .world because it was the one with the most people subscribed. I have no particular attachment to any specific instance.

I don’t get much what reviving entails, just posting somewhere?

          Hello,

          No worries!

Reviving suggest that you will try to make the community more active. Usually that requires to post on it regularly, and ideally to find a few other people to do so with you. That can also involve discussing where to host the new community, as we are doing in the current thread.

You can see those two posts where people discussed where to host a privacy community

Regarding the instance, as someone suggested, !strategygames@sopuli.xyz is not on LW and already exists, so you can leverage on that. @QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz is also a very reactive admin, and the instance has a very good track record.

Then the next step is to at least post to the other strategy community to make people aware that you are reviving another community. The extra step is to try to get moderation of those (usually mods are inactive, and admins are happy to grant people requesting it mod rights. Then you can ask each community if they would be okay to lock their inactive community and redirect to the community you are trying to revive. This whole step can take a while, so don’t worry too much about it, it’s not critical, especially if no other community is active on your topic.

I agree. I live in the US, and while I love my country, the current situation shows how bad it is to have 1 giant player who influences everyone else.

I’m in favor of consolidating things away from lemmy.world. No offense to that instance, but centralization is a threat to the fediverse.

This is probably a decision for someone else to make. I would not be a primary contributor to any strategy community, at most maybe a post every two months or so when one crosses my feed.
