It’s for filtering posts by language, but most posts are “Undetermined” because (1) people don’t mark the language of their posts and (2) people don’t realize you can select more than one language (on PC, you must ctrl+click options to multi-select). If you only speak English, you probably want to select both English and Undetermined.

Because people can’t set a default language for their posts. It’s ridiculous to expect people to select their language over and over again every single time, instead of only changing it quand ils disent en un autre langue.
(And even then, they can’t select multiple options when they mix languages in the same comment, like I just did.)
I had this problem my first time and I was very confused, I wonder why this thing even exists, what is its purpose?

Communities can be configured to automatically tag posts in one language
The idea is to allow people to filter content based on language they can read. It’s a good idea in theory, but the execution can be a bit clunky.
and I think it would be actually very useful if people made use of that setting
Most of Jlai.lu communities are configured to only accept French, so all the posts are automatically tagged
