So much for free speech, huh. Elon Musk’s X is reportedly preventing users from posting links to the popular encrypted messaging app, Signal.

Especially ironic as a few years ago he tweeted “download Signal” and so many people did that it took down their servers

Speech can be free but not private. No Signal or WIRE for you.

Every keystroke in FB Messenger is logged and saved. I can’t imagine Elon’s Xitter is much better. Signal and WIRE don’t do that.

I use the Futo keyboard. Much better anyways. A lot more features and customizability plus offline speach-to-text.

I’m not surprised. They also were blocking Meta, Revolt and Bluesky links awhile back as well. They very commonly block things they think people may want to migrate too until it hits the media and then it magically starts working again.

Least this time it actually errors instead of it just shadow banning the post.

They tried to block mastodon links as well, but it really only affected 2 or 3 instances.

I suppose it’s an advantage of a decentralised service, it’s harder to block.

Lots of people won’t copy and paste a url if it isn’t a hyperlink. No way in hell is anyone bothered enough to use base64.
