Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

I just caught up with Natsume Yuujinchou and would really like something new to read, with similar vibes? Any recs?

I know I gave you some recommendations in last week’s thread already, but here is one other that popped into my head after seeing you mention liking how people grow and change in Natsume:

      • Ri-chan - A romance series about a guy that moves back to his hometown and finds his childhood friend pretty much burned out on life.

It has some horror elements, but it’s slow paced and gentle. It’s a series of short stories about a kid (who can see yokai) who was bullied by everyone and passed around by relatives after his parents died.

He’s just been taken in by a loving family and slowly gains the ability to have friends and relate to people (and yokai). He also finds out his grandmother was similar to him and collected the names of yokai she defeated in duels, and she left that book of names to him. It can be used to control them, so a lot of the stories are about the consequences of him having it.

I like that the story is about how people can grow when shown love and security. With like monsters and mystery.

Natsume also has a great anime adaptation that is ongoing (seven seasons now). I haven’t read Natsume, but have watched the show and enjoyed it a lot. Very much a chill and heartwarming series.
