Yeah, I guess I could do that, but aside from that, it is resource-intensive compared to forks.

2·3 hours agoHow about we just stop doing sports? I remember the transgender sports thing, before that there was drug use in sports, to the point where smoking weed (not an athletic performance inhancer by any measure) could get athletes banned. How about we just ban sports. That seems to be what these conversations are leading towards anyway. It’s not just guns, because sometimes men who get emotional about sports will beat their families to death or something.
Or, maybe instead of banning sports, we still do sports, but everybody has to be naked like in ancient times, or maybe not naked but wearing a giant sign that says “I’m a douchebag” and when someone signs up for a sportsbetting site a paid intern just comes to their house and kicks them in the nuts
No, I mean the ads which are permanently pinned to the startpage. Of course I use uBlock Origin with Firefox forks, as most people do, but that doesn’t prevent the pinned ads from appearing in the startpage, at least not for me.
Vivaldi blocks ads and supports extensions
I could care less about the personal beliefs of the creator if the product works as intended, especially if funding the creator is optional
Persistent and unavoidable ads are the reason I don’t use original Firefox, so it’s the reason I don’t use Brave anymore. There were other issues too, and although it’s supposedly open source, the Palantir connection is shadier than their Prop 8 connection, which I don’t even consider that relevant since it was so long ago
Sometimes I’d prefer a polished product from a company with customers they expect to satisfy rather than a janky free product with ads. Their Leo AI and VPN, though it’s not something most people want, makes it more likely that Brave will have someone to be accountable for
‘Open source’ doesn’t mean anything to me unless it’s also audited by third party experts, not just talking about Brave right now but just generally. The company can literally just lie about what you’re clicking on, an educated expert who knows what they’re talking about needs to audit the software, I might not understand or see something in the code. At the end of the day you’re clicking on something from a website and downloading it.
I don’t think this user is aware that we’re using ‘malware’ literally
DuckDuckGo browser is so handy for so many reasons.
Yes I am disappointed in some ‘privacy influencers’ for recommending Brave. Vivaldi and DuckDuckGo are better Chrome alternatives.
Vivaldi is better and has similar adblocking features
I personally disagree with homophobia but setting that entirely aside, Brave browser sucks, all the cool kids like Vivaldi now, and they’re right
Vivaldi is good
Brave is just malware

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is an artist or public figure you still enjoy despite them being cancelled for bad behaviour?
3·2 days agoLouis CK is really funny, I haven’t seen his new stuff. I thought Chappelle was funny, but he’s not funny anymore. It’s not because he’s transphobic or homophobic now or whatever, I’m against those things, but a skilled comedian can make me involuntarily laugh at those kinds of jokes. It’s because he’s been replaced by a slightly fatter and unfunny clone. I don’t think he came back from hiatus and he’s still in Africa, this slightly fatter dude was made by Viacom I’m convinced. This dude is fatter, taller, and has a different skin tone, maybe that’s just from staying inside and eating dorritos or whatever he does, but he’s a different person at least metaphorically.

2·2 days agoI actually do work in a field which benefits others.
I was able to work full time because so many people in my industry quit or died during covid. I probably wouldn’t have a steady paycheck if it weren’t for the deaths of thousands of people. I just couldn’t get my foot in the door. This goes for all industires. The job market has been terrible and way too competitive for my entire adult life. For me to own a home, thousands more would need to also die. Please do not retaliate against me for informing you of this. It’s not my fault, my doing, or my preference.
There aren’t enough housing units to accomodate the population, and for this to change, some people are going to have to either reliquish their property or build more properties. I didn’t set it up this way and me pointing it out doesn’t mean I’m evil or that I want it to be like this.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How do I get my mom to move to a different social media site?
1·2 days agoI tried to get my mom to download Signal but her memory is stuffed with photos and she hasn’t updated her OS so it didn’t work

Well, I’m dumb and lazy, I don’t want to have to do a bunch of shit I guess.
