It’s short, but it’s a start:
Speaking of old media… I was hesitant to recommend Carmilla, since I wasn’t sure you’d be looking for books (the most remarkable merit being that it was written before Dracula and even the invention of cinema), but TIL there is indeed a movie:

0·15 days agoYeah, me too. ;) I think there’s at least something worth learning.
I’ll usually avoid creating a new post with very basic tests such as this one…

… so for my latest tests, I still try to finish something.

Turns out I started these forest tests because I was trying this type of mountain ridge style and I’m trying to find a tree style that goes along nicely.
Glad I could help.
One more thing: The official forum is a place full of very nice and helpful people.
I do use it myself for SciFi (mostly for Traveller) and I like it. Of course, the number of available styles is not as overwhelming as the ones available for fantasy, but there are some good options.
One thing worth noting: for Sci-Fi you definitely want the highest tier, which includes Cosmographer and all the annuals.
The page for Cosmographer shows a few styles: https://www.profantasy.com/products/cos3_examples.asp
And here’s a few deckplan exampless on a classic Traveller style: https://www.profantasy.com/products/cos3_deckplans.asp
As for the annuals, there’s this post on the forum with a small screenshot/thumbnail for each issue in most annuals: https://forum.profantasy.com/discussion/10366/cartographers-annual-all-the-issues-linked-in-one-place
Finally, there’s this Youtube Playlist with a few of the mapping sessions that focused on Sci-Fi styles: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrFvDl9qgYgsCVt58a41H3rcDjsAc4P4h
maps
That’s the main way it’s used, but there’s no limitation to use it in another way.
There are some styles suited for modern day maps. Or historical maps, such as the April issue of this annual:
https://www.profantasy.com/annual/2022/2022-cartographers-annual.asp
And with Cosmographer and a few annual issues included, there’s plenty of SciFi styles to choose.
They have a YouTube channel where they stream a mapmaking session, you get to see quite a few styles:
This is an almost-everything bundle. For those unaware, every month they release a style, tool or guide and the 12 months make up each Annual Volume.
This page showcases everything in the latest of the included annuals:

Feel free to ask if you want the opinion of a happy customer.

0·24 days agoOh. I didn’t change the title, and it might seem like I’m the one releasing it. But no. This is by our benevolent overlord @eerongal. (How did you tag people in here?) Any ideas for a changed title?
Anyway, for those who missed it, we were provided with a peek some time ago:

Very cool.
I was tempted to suggest more room variety, but there’s also so much elegance in simplicity.
Well, you have to start somewhere. ;)
Thanks for the compliment.

I don’t have them at hand right now, but they must be barely over an inch on the short side.
Ah, well… if you do end up making a bunch of small maps, perhaps you could share them with us?
Just a crack in the stone… it’s just meant to break the white space. But of course, you can insert a subplot.

Looks great!
Thanks for sharing.
