I suspect you’re right. When we bargain (healthcare decay) we get percentage increases. So people on a higher wage get a larger increase than those on a lower.

My somewhat cynical take is that this is to get a foot in the door. Once the policy exists, it’s much easier to lower the threshold than it is to introduce it at a lower point. After all, only a small percentage of the population will be earning over $200k, so not much reason to protest.
First they came for the people earning over $200k, and I did not speak out for I did not earn over $200k. Then they came for the people earning over $150k…

In saying that, I also need to look at the positives, that we do live in a country that is highly regarded internationally. So all is not lost.
I just need to do what I can to make our slice of the world a better place to live.

That’s what I mean by it’s a bit grim. If we’re 4th in the world for perceived corruption, and it’s obvious what is happening here. Then that makes the majority of the world more corrupt, which is a bit depressing when you think about it.
There is little we can actually do about it except vote wisely. However, given the media and mainstream social media bias to right wing politics (largely owned by billionaires who have their own interests) it’s difficult for me to see a fair election happening in the future.
Sorry, I may not have phrased my initial thoughts very well

This is a bit grim reading to be honest. Especially seeing we are 4th in the world in corruption when it’s clear to see our cabinet members are obviously following lobby group interests.
Not sure if this is something you’re looking for, but I’ve seen this mentioned elsewhere

Thiel is in NZ so this wouldn’t surprise me in the least to be honest.
I wish our government would stop selling citizenship to these fuckwits who only want to make lives of the average person worse

Oh, they’ve expanded that service quite a bit since I last travelled. I had a quick google and it says any captured biometric data is destroyed after 3 months.
But I guess it is still open to being hacked /data the data getting out there somehow

I’m surprised about NZ given how much our government has cut services on border control.

You do a great job <3

Came here to mention this. Owl of the year is the best thing on Lemmy!

I can definitely see them. Outside the states and on a VPN.
Horrifying to read…
It is mostly liked you people. Although apparently the fruit are better in the topics than the ones we get here. I can’t eat it though. It just tastes like it’s rotting in my mouth.

Wouldn’t surprise me to know they changed the title. I haven’t seen it personally as the people I follow seem to be honest. But it doesn’t surprise me given that clicks increase revenue.
Even news headlines change if they’re not seeing uptake at what they think they should be for a particular story

New thumbnails mean people are more likely to click thinking it’s a new video
For sure I don’t disagree.
But as you say, they are the wealthiest generation ever. And based on who is voted in and policy made (at least in my country), they very much don’t want to share that wealth.
My parents are a part of that struggling generation, so I know first hand it’s not all
There can be more than one issue, of which both of these are a problem.
The boomers and the rediculously wealthy have the same mindset: fuck you, I’ve got mine
This is the answer I was looking for

Everything by Ado, but I’m especially enjoying The Story of the wind and I.
I mean there’s no direct threat, but if all those places are targeted, or even enough of them, it won’t matter because we’re all fucked anyway. Which is the point
