Data: Captain, due to a highly improbable fluctuation of subspace, it appears that all Christmas presents for the neighborhood have quantum tunneled underneath our Christmas tree.
Geordi: if we reverse the polarity of the warp coils and emit precisely positioned nadion bursts from the phaser arrays we could reverse the tunnels and send the gifts back to their original locations.
Riker: We could save Christmas?
Picard: Mr. Laforge, Mr. Worf, make it ho ho ho.
Worf: Sir, I object. I am not a merry man.

That actually makes sense to me — ASL retains the “thumb = 1” system present in most of Europe.
The programmer is using what I’d call an “Anglo” two. It’s what I grew up with in North America.(see the Inglourious Basterds three finger scene for reference)
Technically, the thumb should be out as well. But yeah, that would totally be read as 3. 🥖🫡

Parenting@lemmy.world•Am I supposed to be enjoying any of this?
0·6 months agoSimilar for me… I felt for my son from birth but not this life-changing wave of paternity that is often portrayed in media. Similar to OP, more like this is a little being that depends on me and I owe it to him and my partner to be responsible. Shit is hard, though.
When I really started connecting with him was when he started showing personality around 6 months, then even more so as he started getting language and mental faculties.
We were told in prenatal classes that on average babies cry about 2 hours/day, and that’s true around the world. Different cultures perceive it differently and thus feel like there’s more or less crying. Maybe this knowledge can help you to take a step back and look at the crying situation more objectively. Maybe not. It is the only way your little one knows to communicate the smallest discomfort right now, and everything bad is also literally the worst thing that has ever happened to them.
We had more like 8 hours of crying due to health challenges and bad advice, and that will shred your soul. If you’re consistently way above the 2 hour mark, do say to your support team. PM me if you want and I’ll share some more thoughts because our team was shit and we had to figure it out ourselves.

5·7 months agoExactly… the price of these new materials/CPUs isn’t in the amount of “exotic” elements, which is barely measurable on a per-unit basis, but in the production.
They are highly food motivated, which can be exploited, even unintentionally. Our two have us well trained to provide nibbles, so crinkling of plastic can draw them out of hiding. But yeah, still prey animals with a strong run-and-hide drive.

16·8 months agoAbsolutely! I also love access to small, cheap electronic bits for my projects, and at the same time I’m all for protecting our postal services. A 2€ per package surcharge doesn’t practically change anything on the economy side. Temu already expects a minimum purchase of something like 20€.
My small concern with this is how it will be applied/processed by the carriers. I hope it doesn’t end up like the customs/VAT on larger packages, where they charge 10-20€ for customs clearance. But now that I write it down, for me, even that isn’t a complete blocking factor. I’d probably spend more time comparing the value of ordering direct vs from a local reseller, which is exactly the goal.
Mr. Bean actually put painstaking effort into protecting everything that shouldn’t be painted, such as the doorknob. This landlord probably just decided to let the occupants chisel free whatever outlets/thermostats/windows/doors they needed. Then later considered the chiseling as damage

I’ve had a similar experience. They accepted my email on a personal domain with a recent TLD but after about 15 minutes of connecting and browsing, I was banned. I suppose it’s because I had the audacity to use a VPN l, but their response was basically no more helpful— “you violated the T&Cs.”
I haven’t been on Vinted since.
