News@lemmy.world•Transgender troops face a deadline and a difficult decision: Stay or go?
1·5 months agoHonestly it probably went better 5 years ago. Cyber in the military has been floundering for a decade, but they probably hit a sweet spot around that time where competence met a lack of interference.

News@lemmy.world•Transgender troops face a deadline and a difficult decision: Stay or go?
4·5 months agoAnd some of them are doing aid missions or patrolling areas to deter invasions, and some are doing defensive cyber to protect US elections or to counter other nation-state hackers or their subcontractors who ransomware hospitals. It’s not always murdering brown people.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•The CUBE [MMO RPG shooter] TBA on SteamEnglish
7·5 months agoOof, I’m all for scantily clad character models with jiggle physics, but it should be omni-gender and there should be options overall.

I’m a fan of Анна Ястрежембовская’s art, it looks almost real.

Drunk bees get their legs broken by the hive bouncers. It’s tough out there.
Outside of nepo-babies they probably didn’t become celebrities without first participating and demonstrating willingness in the existing high-end cult orgies.

45·6 months agoI know it hasn’t stopped this administration yet, but he doesn’t have that authority:
50 U.S. Code § 1702 (b) The authority granted to the President by this section does not include the authority to regulate or prohibit, directly or indirectly— (3) the importation from any country, or the exportation to any country, whether commercial or otherwise, regardless of format or medium of transmission, of any information or informational materials, including but not limited to, publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, microfilms, microfiche, tapes, compact disks, CD ROMs, artworks, and news wire feeds.

science@lemmy.world•Quantum Teleportation Achieved Over Internet For The First TimeEnglish
7·8 months agoThe “spooky action” is really just the determination of a particle’s spin on one side meaning you already know the other particle will have an opposite spin. This probably violates locality because you gain knowledge about something that’s non-local from a quantum perspective, even though entangled particles have to start local (there are opposing interpretations, like the de Broglie-Bohm). While in fiction this might suggest that changing the state of one particle simultaneously changes the other, in real life this just means extra information you mathematically shouldn’t have, and doesn’t really lead to FTL information transmission. What it does mean is that if you want secure communications you can use entangled particles to generate a secret key, determining the spin of them on either side, and you can be sure that they haven’t been tampered with and that the other side of the communication will be equal and opposite. It’s essentially a one-time pad.

24·8 months agoAssuming he was brain dead, at least he probably didn’t consciously experience that pain, in spite of whatever involuntary bodily spasms he might’ve made on life support. The man you knew died painlessly at least, and I hope that brings you some peace.
