  • Lol, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s neurodivergent (I probably am too tbh), but I think it’s just more how he was raised and now he’s just too old to change his way, lol. He’s been a computer engineer since the 80’s and has been on the internet since about then. I think he’s just gone to too many security conferences and gotten a bit paranoid. Better to be too cautious than the other way around in my opinion. And to be clear, it’s not like he’s overly paranoid to the point of affecting his life, he just doesn’t like giving his info out online to places he doesn’t trust.

  • Oh that’s awesome, must not have read the GOG page carefully enough, thanks!

And on that other note, he’s the one that keeps bringing it up, he just wants my help to find the best way to get it for him. I agree he’s a bit stuck in his ways, he doesn’t use anything that needs his CC or address (unless my mom signs up for it first lol), and doesn’t like downloading anything that he’s not 100% trustworthy of.

Thanks for your help, I think GOG is the way to go!

  • Ah man, I think cases are great! I learned Russian in college, which has six cases, and they can be used to express so much with so little. English used to have them, you can see remnants in the apostrophe ‘s’ when denoting possession, and I’m bummed they went away.

I’ll give it to you that they’re a pain in the ass to learn, but once you get the hang of them I think they’re super neat!

Edit: they also allow for variable sentence structure which can be super fun and, again, express a lot of meaning just through text (at least in Russian, not sure if that’s the case in German).

  • Ah gotcha, that could be the issue. I feel like Jellyfin should be able to handle that, but the way I have it setup is just placing all my movies in a single movie folder, then Jellyfin takes care of the rest. I then take it a step further and put movies into subfolders alphabetically, so mine would look like

…/jellyfin/movies/S/Star Trek II - The Wratch of Kahn (1982).mkv

This allegedly makes searching faster, but I think you’d need like a couple thousand movies for it to make any difference.

There are times where I don’t really like this, for example Rambo 1 is called First Blood so it’s in the F directory and the rest of the Rambo movies are in the R directory, but Jellyfin will organize it all on the interface so it’s not a huge deal.

Also, I think some of my issues are coming from using the TMDB Box Set plugin which automates my collections. I think if you create the collections manually things might go a bit smoother.
