  • It’s quite easy without docker to get lots of it running with a dietpi install. Runs on rpi and alike, but also on any “normal” old low end pc. Just select jellyfin, arrs, … It handles it all for you, no need to learn Docker (I know people will argue about the advantages of docker, which are valid points, but ease of installation is more important to many people). The only difficulty remains the streaming outside your own LAN (because it’s risky). VPN, tailscale, … there’s options but it always keeps on feeling risky to open up outside LAN. Local setup for jellyfin can be really really easy tho, if it’s just for yourself and you mostly watch at home anyway… And in some jellyfin compatible app like Finamp and Streamyfin you can just download a few music albums, episodes or movies to your phone before you travel…

  • Some of them (ahum you know which one) did lose actual value: the entire credibility of their biggest brands are down the drain for years to come… In that way the stockprices do really show that they are losing out. Some others really are losing (sort of) equal access to big important markets… The loss is real, even tho I agree with the sentiment of your post, the lowering stocks predict lowering income, lowering dividends which these people expect to rake in eternally to keep their billionaire lifestyle afloat, etc. They are slowly becoming less wealthy from the shennanigans. Not quick enough tho. A billionaire is a thing that just shouldn’t be allowed to exist ever anywhere.

  • You’re being downvoted but it obviously is a real option at this point. Putin explained his imperial game to trump and trump decided to join, simple as that and as it was often done for hundreds of years. You can have Canada if I can have Ukraine. No one knows what they discussed In private. USA, Russia, China doing a let’s decide about the preys’ destiny among us thing. Trump clearly feels more association with Putin an xi government style than with democracy anyhow… How far could France’s nuclear umbrella stretch?

  • I want to protest, but if I miss work then I might lose my job, which would cost me my health insurance and likely my house.

I think this is exactly why protesting is necessary. It is the entire reason why unions emerged in the first place. Pool together resources, so everyone can join in on a strike and the strike can take weeks or months without people going hungry.

I blame the barely existance of affordable health care, unemployment systems, social housing etc. as a main reason for where the USA got to where it is now. It’s always everyone for themselves and people like Trump or Musk are the very personification of this basic idea underlining every aspect of USA society, on steroids. There is no society, there is only eternal struggle between all individuals who are all very scared of not being succesfull and/or ending in absolute poverty because they dare to think outside of this dominating idea that everyone is what they themselves chose/do/are…

  • Honestly, it’s still a real job even if they feel it isn’t anymore.

They scripted some collection of mindnumbing stupid tasks, while everything works it’s all fine and they have lots of free time to “think about optimising other things in the organisation” (or in reality do whatever they like for private projects).

But when SHTF (and it always will at some point), this person is the one that can fix it all in a few hours max (and possible optimise thing further), while some external firm would struggle for weeks. That can worth keeping them on the payroll, even if the bosses are aware of the situation.

This is exactly the kind of job that should be rewarded. The person doing the exact same paper pushing for 40h a week without questioning how dumb the task is and how it could be optimised is the real resources drain.
