Wilhoit’s law proven right yet again:
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
Quoting Zhukov in a thread relating to Hungarian dysfunction, really? Why not see what Pol Pot thought about ophthalmology?
Edit: downvoters may want to educate themselves on what Zhukov was up to in 1956.
Is there a German word for “an endorsement that has a net negative effect”?

Least purity-testing leftist
So would his constituents, if they could read.
It’s common? Can you name a single other example where a head of state personally made the decision despite most of the population disagreeing and not having asked for it in the first place?
In any case that doesn’t give that country of buffoons permission to change the name for everybody else. Wikipedia belongs to everyone.
We’re already seeing it on such mundane pages as that for the Gulf of Mexico, which has MAGAs complaining on the Talk page as though their clown show of a country were the only one on earth and should get to unilaterally name international bodies of water.
A bit under 5 CAD for a dozen at my usual grocery (29 US cents per egg). Maybe that’s why Americans want to invade us.
The US never recognized the ICC. They even reserve the right to invade the Nettherlands to free any detained Americans: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_and_the_International_Criminal_Court#American_Service-Members’_Protection_Act
On Sunday, Waltz added that many Canadians “do not like the last 10 years of liberal, progressive governance in Trudeau.”
Part of me welcomes this assclown’s idiocy because every dumbass statement like this drops our Conservatives’ polling results by 1 point (our election has to be before Oct 20). Conservatives had a massive lead but have been tanking hard since the inauguration as people realize how much of a disaster a MAGA-adjacent government would be for us.
Exactly. Ontarians don’t want an election, and they will punish Ford by voting him in yet again.
If they build a statue of him in Kyiv they can buy as much delay as they need.
No no they aren’t “saluting” him, their heart goes out to him.

If you don’t see Americans pulling ahead then you have absolutely no clue regarding what’s happening. Americans have a secure energy supply and Europe doesn’t.
If only there were a country with twice the total landmass of the EU, rich in all types of resources, that is ideologically extremely close to the EU and has just been spurned by the US and is actively looking to realign itself with more reliable allies. Can you think of anyone?
EU will become more dependent on Chinese manufacturing going forward.
This is not a bad thing in the short term. China is not an ideological ally but they are at least rational and not raving lunatics like the US.
Thanks, this will go in my pantheon of tankiest lemmy.ml takes I’ve ever seen. Complaining that the people who literally invented and perfected democracy work together only because of Americans… Unbelievable.
Mearsheimer somehow thinks he can get away with behaving like we live in the early 19th century where the fog of war is so thick that states couldn’t see the end of their own nose. He willingly ignores the enormous progress made in collaborative diplomacy since the second world war, with (ironically) the EU being the most outstanding example. He has such a hard-on for the CCP that he’s unwilling to accept that any alternative can have long-term success.
Unfortunately conservatism as an ideology has been co-opted by antisocial elements. We’re a long way from Edmund Burke. Would “classical liberal” fit you better?
