Exactly. Especially considering half these commenters are using chatbots and AI interchangeably as if there aren’t dozens of other tools that use AI/ML to parse data and do anomaly detection.

I stumbled on vimwiki years ago and I’ve never found anything that meets my needs better. You can use markdown, link to things, etc. I use git to help manage versions and track changes, but I truly treat it like a wiki where it’s constantly updated and live.

You can easily publish to html too if that’s your thing.

As for searching and other stuff, I use telescope (part of neovim) and grep and other coreutils and bash scripts to do the things I need to do with my stuff. For example I have a vim keyboard that calls a script that greps through my diary notes for “to do” items then puts them in one file for me. But they all link back to the file they reference. So I can quickly see my to do items and jump to that specific note to work out it or close it out.

It’s all text files; no databases or special formats.

If you use md it’s interoperable with a myriad of other apps and tools too.

My blog, for example is a Hugo blog so any personal note that I want to make into a blog post is a ‘cp’ away from publishing.

No one is fucking “fleeing”.

But they waited so long to do it. I think everything except the iPhone was already usb c (iirc) and given the supply chain lead times, the timing of the reg vs the release of the new usb c phone, I really think they had the usb-c phones in flight for a couple years.

Maybe the looming threat of the reg made it happen. Maybe it made it happen faster. But it seemed like the direction they were headed.

At the end of the day, I’m glad they regulate vs what the US does. Even if their regs aren’t perfect / late, they do something for their constituents.

I gotta say that seemed pretty performative considering apple was obviously already moving that way with usb-c on all their devices.

I joined back in college when it was an invite only walled-garden of college kids. Zucks pic was still in the banner when I joined iirc. They hadn’t release “the wall” or much of what Facebook eventually became.

But when parents and coworkers started trying to friend request me I realized it was time to bail.

IMO this is where Apple Intelligence could really shine. Imagine asking siri to do a semi complex task and have it create an apple script/shortcut/automation for it without having to know anything about how it works. Talk about a killer feature.

The sad reality is that most people, like an overwhelming majority, won’t leave. Most don’t even have a clue this is happening in the first place, those that do, love their family and friends more than they hate Mark.

And where are they going to go? I heard Cory doctorow liken it to Anatevka (the town in Ukraine from fiddler on the roof) the people were sad they were leaving because they knew it would never be the same again and they might not see each other again. They didn’t like getting beat by Cossacks and it was a shitty place to be but they didn’t want to leave their people.

Dumping a platform that has your friends and family is a hard thing to do especially if it’s the only meaningful way you can connect with them otherwise. Especially if you know some won’t leave and some aren’t going to go to the same place you are.

I watched this yesterday. I am so pumped for when this hits prime time. I installed one of the first alphas on an old laptop and love where they are headed.

It just occurred to me that this might be happening because they are doing on-device inference for their apple intelligence, they likely have to push model updates to the phone. I bet we are seeing more updates because they are tuning the models.

It seems like they are releasing and patching “on-the-fly” with this stuff.

I don’t know that anyone “needs” anything more than bash. It’s the creature comforts that sell the other shells. That said, bash has never hung or crashed on me. I can’t say the same for zsh.

Part of me wonders if he’s having trouble finding willing folks (let me rephrase: quality willing folks) to do these jobs because 1. Most half-intelligent half-sane people know what he’s about 2. He’s about 2 years from being irrelevant to the Republican party and he’s not the person you want to be tied to. 3. He’s burned so many people that it really doesn’t make sense for reasonable people to be interested.

I think (maybe it’s naive hope) that after mid-terms we’ll see the party start to look beyond Trump and effectively make him less important. We are sort of seeing it with the Senate putting pressure on some of his picks (Gaetz).

That flight is about 2 hours. But you have to account for getting to the airport, getting through security, boarding, checking bags, deplaning on the other end , getting bags, getting back to city center. That’s easily an hour and half or two hours on each end.

When you add up all of that time, it starts getting pretty competitive.

Id love for more(any) high speed rail in the US.

My dad had a lung condition and ended up with COVID. He was on high flow oxygen for a very long time in the ICU. Eventually it just ripped up his nose to the point where he got a massive nose bleed.

The doctor said it’s an inevitablilty because oxygen is so harsh.

The nosebleed forced them to intubate and that was the last time I spoke to my dad.

A fucking nosebleed.
