Honestly kind of cool. I don’t use split screen much but when I do it’s usually for maps and music because having the ability to swipe to the next song is often more reliable that my steering wheel controls. Easier to use in rental cars in my experience too. Not sure I need it to be that extreme for my use case though.
Part of the reason I haven’t yet moved away from Google services on my pixel is because of the call screening and anti-spam features. I screen unknown callers pretty much all the time so Google is listening if they call me anyway. I’m fine with that, knowing A. That the callers get a heads up that they’re talking to an AI and being recorded and B. That the ones who are human and trying to scam me generally don’t call back once they know the line is being actively recorded.
There’s no feature parity for this on any of the roms I would move to. Taking it a step further is unnecessary for me, and I’ll probably opt out. But I can fully understand why someone might want it (for their elderly family members for instance).

Because I’m curious why Valve would have gone to so much trouble to make the game run on Linux just to ruin that.
This is what I do when I want to search Lemmy. I put Lemmy: “search for this” into the search box and see what comes up. It works better than Lemmy’s internal search function a lot of the time.
Fuchsia? It became the OS for their nest line of products I think.
Now they’re doing away with chrome os I guess to make Chromebooks run android in an attempt to compete with Apple’s iPad line. I actually suspect Dex is part of this.
Nothing at all in this about how few actual cars are still being sold. Because the NHTSB have made it so that passenger vehicles require a certain number of safety features and fuel efficiency, bigger vehicles means more money for auto makers and not having to produce vehicles that are as fuel efficient or safe as their larger counter parts.
We tested this extensively. On Android we all have the setting to turn off read receipts. It’s broken. It does not turn off read receipts for us. Our phones run the gamut from pixel 9 pro/+ to a pixel 5. To get read receipts to go away we had to turn off RCS completely.
Short answer: No. Long answer: I trust him so little I’d like to see him use a chainsaw as a sounding rod.
RCS won’t allow users to turn off certain things like read receipts. That’s problematic for some. I personally like them but I know people who don’t who I have unfortunately had to inform that they have to turn off RCS altogether to get rid of them even though there’s a setting to turn off read receipts.
That assumes it’s attached to a carrier. I had a phone stolen out of the mail.
On the other hand I like that my phone does those things and don’t want it to be sellable in the event that someone decides to steal it.
I opted for the ROG Ally X. A couple of things swayed me. My ability to hold it in store and the tech specs for future proofing were both reasons. But I never planned for this device to be a Windows only handheld. I specifically bought it for the few games I own that can’t run Linux and I run everything else in Bazzite. If it had come with Steam OS I likely still would have bought it and done a dual boot. I don’t think it’s fair to assume that people are buying non-steam handhelds just because they don’t want to deal with Linux. They likely have no idea what Linux has to offer and are going with what they can buy in store.
I have a couple of reasons. The first and foremost is that I use windows for two things. Gaming (I dual boot windows and Bazzite for that to cover the few games I haven’t gotten to work), and work. My work laptop has windows 10 because the IT department can’t get some of the legacy software we rely on to do our jobs to work in 11. The compatibility layer originally wasn’t there and now it only works some of the time and every time there’s an update it breaks something. As a result we will likely be paying to continue to receive important security updates after 10 sunsets in October.
Additionally, some windows computers lose certain functionality when you install Linux (touchscreen compatibility, pen input compatibility etc. Can I update my personal surface pro to Linux? Yes. Will I? Unlikely. It’s way more likely that I’ll jailbreak it to force free security updates for the duration. I’ve run into way too much stuff I’ve had to have to IT department just straight up turn off in both 11 and 10. 11 is much worse for this though and subsequent updates have a habit of turning that stuff back on because MS wants that data.
So much new telemetry. So many new ads. So much random tracking. Swapping browsers to Edge. Copilot. Etc.
My fedora rig has secure-boot/tpm enabled. But getting that to work isn’t something the average windows user is going to do. The average windows user doesn’t ever open the command line in windows. And that’s the thing I think people in the Linux community need to understand. I grew up with DOS. I spent 30+ years using the command line. I have used windows since 3.0. I have a general understanding of how to get what I want out of windows. I’m learning to do that with Linux but I have been on Linux for like a year and a half. The learning curve when you are already very familiar with something else and have muscle memory for something else is staggering. And I can fully understand why it might be exceptionally confusing and unintuitive for someone who’s never had to use a terminal ever.
The fact is, most computer devices are phones. They use apps. There is some overlap in that with windows, but the plug and play nature of how these people are used to doing things is just as important to this conversation as just about ever other point.
Windows even pops up “helpful” tips and tricks because they know that people aren’t windows savvy. I personally hate them but I’m not the average windows user.
I’d also like to point out that windows had the audacity to change the design language and somehow make a usable tablet environment worse in windows 11 in a bit to be more macOS-like and I personally really really hate that as well. I have my desktop and start menu set up in a way I like it and windows 11 completely ruins that and in my case makes things harder for me because I am fighting muscle memory. It’s egregious to have to pay for the privilege of changing my start menu or task bar. I shouldn’t have to go in and doctor what apps are allow during start up. I shouldn’t have to turn off OneDrive or office 365. I shouldn’t have to turn off telemetry or ads. This is a device I purchased and the OS is not supposed to spy on me.
Takes it all back because A. There was no review bombing, people who left mixed reviews had reasonable and valid complaints, and B. He reversed course as soon as people started pointing out how he was protesting quite a lot about exactly nobody calling him a Nazi.
Either you haven’t read into what Nintendo is doing and kept up with what’s been going on in the court case, (and perhaps meant to put a /s at the end of your first comment), or you’re blaming Palworld for something Nintendo did because they are big mad that anyone would dare make a game even remotely similar to theirs. I don’t care if you’re defending Nintendo or not.
NINTENDO LITERALLY APPLIED FOR PATENTS FOR GAME MECHANICS used in Palworld after the game was already released to the public. They invented a reason to sue. They directly manufactured it. Your inability to communicate your thoughts on the matter is not my problem. Maybe stop raving for a minute and compose a reply that actually makes sense.
Lists. My notes app puts in work. I make lists for everything. I set alarms for everything. I write things down while I’m thinking about them because I will forget. I ask for things in writing because I will misremember what was said. I have a white board stuck to my fridge so that I can write down when we’re out of something or running low. Oh. And basketball nets over the hamper.
