Electromagnetism is very flexible and theoretically you could put a lot of energy in a small place with it and there’s things like a strong enough magnetic field levitating a live frog.

That said it doesn’t seem very practical and it might not even be close to safe to walk around something with that much power like in the sci fi shows.

Well the gravitational waves come from a mass that is moving. It’s like electromagnetic waves are created by a moving charge. But because gravity is so weak you need it to be a very big mass moving very fast to be detectable. When black holes merge they spiral in and at the last moment they get to extremely high RPM with all that mass moving very fast.

Kind of an interesting thought but I don’t know if it really counts to say that the mass and location of the black hole is really “information from inside the horizon” even though technically the center of mass is inside the horizon.

The black holes are so big and fast when they spiral in and merge that they literally create waves in spacetime which change the length of things by a tiny amount as they pass by us and LIGO is able to measure when the two arms of it change length by nanometers and that’s where we got the signal.

There’s also The Event Horizon Telescope which made radio images of the black hole at the center of our galaxy. We haven’t been able to catch a merger with this though.

Black holes merge. It doesn’t matter what size they are. It’s not that the bigger one eats the smaller one they just merge.

There’s different kinds of backups. For this you don’t need off-site storage.

For this I set up zfs auto snapshotting which means when I delete stuff it isn’t really deleted because a snapshot is still pointing at it until it rolls off the time window.

Both zfs and btrfs can do this but you do need to change the filesystem to use these which can be a lot of work.

As far as I know it was started by the original lemmy developers which made the software because they felt persecuted for their beliefs on normie social media. Lemmy just happened to be around when the reddit CEO decided to f up reddit so everyone started using it despite the creators not being well adjusted people.

I don’t get how extremist leftist content ends up attracting people who are against woke stuff in stardew really but over time I’ve gotten the vibe the ml and hexbear people are in general more combative and angry about things.
