  • The part where this goes off the rails in the public discourse is that people are broadly absolutely fucking STUCK in linear, binary thinking, I can list a thousand examples of this in every-day-life and it’s a weakness that governments exploit daily. For some reason our species can live comfortably in the cognitive dissonance about things like faith and reason existing alongside each other, but cannot fathom the idea that bad people can fight other bad people and they’re both bad. Or that people lie in ways that appeal to your own feelings to try to get public sympathy behind their own agenda.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sea_crisis

The Houthis say that any Israel-linked ship is a target,[90][87][88] including US and UK warships, but they have also attacked the ships of many nations with no connection to Israel.[91][92] From October 2023 to March 2024, the Houthis attacked more than 60 vessels in the Red Sea.

They’re pirates. If the genocide stopped tomorrow, they would still be fighting for their own political agendas and of course the wealth onboard these giant ships full of goods, including food, aid and other vital supplies destined for countries unrelated to Israel, Yemen or Palestine.

One of my more depressing moments in dealing with the human race was when people were boycotting Blizzard a few years ago for… well, everything. But the sexual harassment and discrimination scandal was the final straw for a lot of people.

I talked about it with my gaming friends on discord at the time, everyone agreed that what the company was doing was terrible, but the more we talked about it, the more they delved into nostalgia and thought about how much fun they had playing WoW when they were younger.

The next day I jump in discord and all five of them had reactivated their subscriptions and were having the time of their life running around WoW without a care in the world. I wanted to throw up.

Our species is fundamentally stuck in a state of cognitive dissonance. We will never have good things.

  • Before traveling to California, I had people in my neighborhood plead with me not to go because the whole state is a “disaster area” and that the cities are burning and that there are “drug needles everywhere you walk” and that I was putting my life and those of my loved ones in serious danger. They thought with 100% certainty that Los Angeles was completely on fire from looting and I was going to some kind of Mad Max hellscape. Without exaggeration. They wouldn’t listen to reassurance and were genuinely worried.

Granted some of these people were older, they weren’t suffering dementia and could still drive. They just park in front of FOX news all day, every day, 24-hours a day swallowing conservative propaganda. They also have algorithmic filtering on their facebook and twitter.

Our perspectives of each others worlds has been damaged beyond repair because of this filtering. We have it on the left/progressive side too, showing us a different reflection of a pandering, emotionally validating worldview. Not as malicious maybe, but we are all trapped.

America is just used to banning things instead of holding the public accountable.

IE: it’s much easier to ban dogs from a store or gathering place than kick someone out for not having a trained dog that knows to shit outside, or god forbid, expect someone to clean up properly if their dog has an accident, and then you get angry Karens and Chuds screaming at you while holding their phones up recording the whole thing, which then goes viral and the company’s brand-name suddenly becomes associated with hating dogs or something.

  • You’re right, and what you need to understand is that the reason half of our idiots voted for an idiot is because we allowed corporations to atomize society so people didn’t mix anymore, we don’t have shared perspectives of the world anymore, everyone gets their information about literally everything algorithmically. This atomization of society is what took down the USA and it’s coming for you next if it’s not already happening wherever you are.

  • You have just spent too much time talking to the chronically online individuals or whatever the term is.|

I have, and I know it, and those are who I am speaking to the most because that’s who are here in sites like this in the most numbers. I am here trying to rally people, even if it’s out of spite and anger and offense, to stay involved.

The last presidential election we had has had some of the highest voter participation and youth participation in history, and they still voted for Trump, so the problem isn’t exterior, it’s coming from inside the house, and as long as we’re lamenting and feeling like shit about it, we’re falling into their trap.

  • I’m glad you looked into it, I’ve been down that road. I am talking about the broader syndrome too, the idea that all people everywhere have such an ingrained need to have societal belonging that we are going to have to start calculating for it, it’s a part of human society entirely.

3.– Fuck. That. Fuck the cards I’m dealt. I’ll make my own fucking cards.

Out of everyone on Lemmy I’ve clashed with, informed, opened up new avenues of mental exploration for, this reaction here tells me that you’re feeling it, you get it. I want you on my team when I become emperor. Unfortunately I’ll probably lose you on some other uncomfortable truths.
