  • No. This lack of accountability is what got us here in the first place. We would have been a hell of a lot better off if on January 6th, the capital had been defended with machine guns nests, and a few thousand violent right wing terrorists were killed on the spot. The Weimar government let Hitler and his goons go, when they could have prevented the Holocaust by hanging them all.

I’m not talking vigilante justice. I’m talking people being lawfully tried and executed for treason and crimes against humanity. These are the most serious crimes possible, and they absolutely warrant the death penalty. I’m sorry, but if you’re abducting innocent people and sending them off to concentration camps, you deserve to be executed for your crimes.

The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi.

  • Like, considering what US hospitals charge, plasma donors damn well should be paid. It’s a travesty that whole blood donors aren’t paid a penny. There should be a law that whatever a hospital charges for a blood transfusion, half of whatever they bill has to get paid to the donor. I’m fine with donation being an act of charity if the blood was going to be used for a charitable cause. But what we have now is that whole blood donors perform a charitable act…and then donate their blood to a greedy hospital that will charge patients thousands for the blood the donor was never paid for.

  • For employers at least, state laws usually require them to offer direct deposit. But the problem is that many low income folks are unbanked. If you’re poor, you’re more likely to have an overdrawn account. And banks have a special credit rating equivalent system for bank account customers. If you have too poor a history with one bank, they’ll close your account, and other banks may refuse to open an account for you. Or many banks have free accounts without a monthly fee, but only if you maintain a minimum balance or deposit a minimum in there each pay period. Poor folks can struggle to qualify on either of those accounts.

  • I’ve been on HRT for 14 year. Been on pills and injections. With and without T blockers. Pre and post op. I have never had period symptoms.

IMO, it’s not completely impossible that someone might experience this. It’s conceptually possible having an estrogen-dominated systems triggers some secondary hormone cycles in the brain, and these trigger some cramping and PMS-like symptoms in trans women even though we lack uterii. And cis women post-hysterectomy have reported similar symptoms. But still, I would classify trans female periods as “highly unlikely, but not completely impossible.”

I’m pretty skeptical of it. The symptoms are all things that can be caused by other factors. For example, digestive troubles and stomach pain and cramping are often cited. But these are classic symptoms of stress. Maybe people get stressed out over the rent being due at the end of the month, or have some other monthly stressor, and that causes the monthly digestive symptoms they interpret as a pseudo-menstrual cycle. And this is just one example. We live our lives according to the calendar. The symptoms of these purported periods are generic enough that they could be caused by any number of things that also vary on a monthly cycle.

I don’t think people are lying or trying to deceive anyone. But ultimately it seems likely to be psychosomatic. It’s even possible for such an externally-triggered stress response to only start after starting HRT. HRT is widely known to affect emotions. It’s reasonable that stress responses would change after starting HRT. So maybe the monthly stress of having rent due doesn’t trigger digestive issues before HRT, but it does after HRT. This is one example of how starting HRT could produce the “period symptoms” people report. The reported symptoms are vague enough that they could be caused by any external factor that can affect digestion and varies monthly. You could have a monthly burrito night with friends, and that might be enough to trigger this.

I get that people want to be experiencing some sort of period symptoms. I’ve certainly found affirmation in bizarre places. But the fact that many of us would find such a thing affirming is exactly why we should be skeptical of such claims. I’m not willing to rule out the possibility completely, but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I’m a trans gal, but I’m also a scientist. And I think caution and skepticism are highly warranted here.

  • The Conservative’s slogan in 2025 was “Canada First. For a Change.” That’s standard fascistic nativism.

Poilievre was largely regarded as Canada’s Trump.. He ran on the same brand of anger, grievance, right wing populism, immigrant bashing, and vile transphobia as Trump. The ONLY reason he is not Canada’s prime minister right now is that Trump won and Canadians got a preview of what putting the conservatives in power would look like. Oh, and Trump threatening to annex Canada certainly didn’t help him.

But fascist movements are rising around the world. Populist right wing authoritarianism is not unique to the US. It’s a global trend. Trump is just the highest profile win of the new fascist movement.

And yes, modern conservative parties have been completely taken over by fascists. They’re full of either enthusiast fascists or power-hungry craven fools who will look the other way and vote for fascist policies as long as it serves them politically. Aka, fascist collaborators.

You recoil with horror when I call conservatives fascist, but they LITERALLY just ran an overtly fascist campaign. If a fascist getting elected in a neighboring country tanks your political campaign…what does that say about you?
