Maybe we wouldn’t need external libraries to do basic things if JavaScript had a standard library

TheGalacticVoid@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through CollegeEnglish1·14 days agoYou’re advocating for quantity over quality. You will easily find situations where students don’t learn in small groups because the professor lecturing that group isn’t a good professor.

Marketed hospital prices are not the same as what patients pay. Yes, a lot will pay around the $8k, but a lot more will pay a few hundred dollars.
I’m not saying the US has affordable health care, but if you’re going to criticize something, you have to keep the nuance.
TheGalacticVoid@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody else annoyed by news headlines being predominantly clickbaity now?2·22 days agoOne newspaper is enough to get a shallow understanding of something, but it’s not enough to get a more nuanced understanding. Even then, not every newspaper covers every story, so you’ll need multiple even for a shallow understanding about XYZ.
TheGalacticVoid@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anybody else annoyed by news headlines being predominantly clickbaity now?2·22 days agoIn fairness, I haven’t found a good paid news aggregator that has those paid sources. I sincerely doubt that most people can pay $10/month each to read NYT, The Economist, Bloomberg, WSJ, their local big newspaper, Wired, and whatever else might be useful.
TheGalacticVoid@lemm.eeto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What majors should I take (CS or Management)?3·1 month agoI’ve read some takes that basically said the following:
The market for devs will shrink, but the market for senior devs will grow greatly.
Assuming that’s true, you won’t have to worry if you enjoy programming and are going to actively gain tons of skills in your free time.
If you won’t be that person, then I’m not sure if CS is good for you.

I thought the Syncthing stuff was just me, but I’ve seen similar accounts from some people online.
TheGalacticVoid@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?1·1 month agoHard disagree. I’ve had so many issues with Syncthing deleting files and refusing to connect over LAN that I’ve never had with Resilio Sync.
This is such an awful idea as it stops us from buying international packages from anywhere. The ‘loophole’ is already closed for China.

They can’t (legally) deny you entry into the US, but they might make your life hell when re-entering. Bring a burner phone with you in case they take your phone. Don’t keep anything even remotely political saved on there.
You’d be surprised at how many allistic people can’t detect satire
