Q: what does combining with Powertoys Run give you? I used to use Everything but dropped it this year for Powertoys Run as it seemed good enough at this point and meant one less program (although I’m sure Everything is very efficient.)

Gonna get downvoted to crap for this, but what the hell - hi, it’s me, I’m that one guy who actually loves Windows a little more with every release. I’m continually surprised by the good stuff that’s baked into the OS now (e.g. Much better multi-monitor support) and how the real power users can do a whole load more besides with Powertoys (key remapping!) - It’s really encouraging to see that I need fewer and fewer specialist programs to get Windows to work just how I want.
I’m not wildly sold on AI being baked into the OS, but what the heck - Microsoft have earned their goodwill from me in recent years. I’ll play around with it with interest.

Counterpoint: the swipe viewing mode (great for picture-heavy communities), which can be set as a default viewing mode for subreddits in Boost, is treated as a weird ginger stepchild in Sync and you have to manually select it every time. It also ignores options like ‘don’t start videos with sound’ for Reasons as well. Very irritating and odd.
Nah, it’s definitely available in 10 - used to use it a lot on my dual monitor setup at work and that’s still not upgraded to 11. Fell out of the habit of dual monitoring during the pandemic so it hasn’t really been necessary since…
Didn’t know about this Powertoys feature, neat - think Windows actually has a built-in option you can toggle where if you hold down shift (or possibly ctrl? Haven’t had cause to use it for ages) it’ll highlight the cursor with a bright circle.
Personally, I wasn’t too worried by the pricing model of Sync, and I’m usually tight AF - I think post- the great 3rd party client purge of Reddit it’s clear to me just how much value they brought to my browsing experience, so I’m happy to support the developers.
I think people who say these apps already exist and it’s just a case of porting to the Lemmy APIs are massively underestimating the actual amount of work involved to do these apps justice on Lemmy. £20 or so to support the developer and gain an ad-free experience seems entirely fair to me!
I recommend a DNS-based ad blocker like NextDNS. Works on everything, everywhere!

Spaceships Over Glasgow: Mogwai, Mayhem and Misspent Youth by Stuart Braithwaite - a musical memoir of the Mogwai star. It’s a really great and nostalgic look back at the Scottish alternative music scene of the early 90s so far, enjoying it a lot!
For me it’s the bizarre inability to set a subreddit’s default view mode to be swipe. That extra button tap every time I’m on a picture heavy sub is a real chore. Boost can do it so why not Sync? 🤷
Super appreciative to have Sync for Lemmy to use in the meantime, but it’s only increased my appetite for the real deal - Boost for life!
Seconded. NextDNS is incredible and you don’t even have to subscribe to get the benefit unless you’re a super heavy user.
It’s like I’ve gone from using a promising alpha for a Reddit replacement to a near-finished product. I love it.
Voyager (formerly Wefwef). I’m still super excited to get Boost back in my life, but I’m so so impressed with just how functional and great feeling the Voyager team have been able to make a PWA.
