Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Who needs stable, feature-rich desktops anyway4·12 days agoIf it’s not for everyone it should not be the default for many distributions, and other DEs should be recommended for beginners then.
I think the design philosophy of “you have to adapt to the software” is harmful. Software should adapt to you and disappear out of your way for common tasks. Something Gnome leadership fails to understand.

Money corrupts and makes aligning user needs and profitability quite difficult, as we see with Plex now
Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•That's all folks, Plex is starting to charge for sharingEnglish21·16 days agoJellyfin refuses donations so even if I (not the one you’re responding to) wanted to, I would not be able to.
Pretty funny one has to keep reducing features and increase prices, while the other is actively refusing funds because they have enough already.

Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto Science Memes@mander.xyz•It puts the frequency in the bucket or it gets the sigterm againEnglish4·19 days agoCan your “radio” be called that if they listen for sonic pulses ?
I thought the term radio was exclusive to electromagnetic radiation, does the term also apply for sonars ?
Or maybe bats also use some kind of EM waves to echo locate too ?
Edit: not trying to be pendantic, I’m genuinely curious about this
Yeah I get the gist of it. But I know the real reason for my birth and it’s not purely altruistic.
I don’t have it as bad as you, but every day I wonder why my parents had me.
Except I know why, and it disgusts me. No consideration to what I would feel because they wanted another kid.

The phone is designed to be the most advanced environmentally friendly smartphone.1·1 month agoI have a FP5 too and the photos in daylight aren’t that much better. If you zoom a little bit you see the same kind of blurriness.
I’m not a good photographer and overall the quality is fine for my usage, but it’s still behind other phones in the same price range.

I wouldn’t put it above Tesla to do the same here.
Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto Hardware@lemmy.world•Synology requires self-branded drives for some consumer NAS systems, drops full functionality and support for third-party HDDsEnglish28·1 month agoYou mean the medium enterprise tier of their line up ?
Yes consumers can buy them, but the real market for this will indubitably buy whatever is recommended hardware anyway.
I see this as a nothing burger. If they ever change this for the real consumer hw maybe we can cry, but until then…Edit: I knew posting this would drown in down votes. Lemmy is as dumb as reddit and will follow whatever bandwagon they see.
Come argue if you think I’m wrong, instead of surfing on sensationalism and down voting blindly.
Swiss neutrality is a joke.
Neutral in that they will follow whoever’s putting money in their pockets.
They helped immensely Nazi Germany during WWII, stalled shipment of military gear to Ukraine, shelter Russian money; and will probably follow whatever fascist gov the US will have in a few years.
For tech, Switzerland would be the last country I’d trust after CryptoAG and co.Neutrality for them is a marketing term.

So I would not consider it to be a paid game going f2p

Apart from CSGO, the others have always been free (on the technicality that Fortnite BR is different from the original game)
Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why's everyone freaking out about Firefox Terms of Service? Isn't it Open Source?1·2 months ago(sorry I took some time to come back to this) I’m not entirely sure the #5 of OSD would apply to the binary results (even though they are considered derivative work). GPL does restrict the license of the binary, but it seems MPLv2 allows licensing the binary differently as long as you don’t restrict the code further:
You may distribute such Executable Form under the terms of this License, or sublicense it under different terms, provided that the license for the Executable Form does not attempt to limit or alter the recipients’ rights in the Source Code Form under this License.
These cause don’t biphobia

Orygin@sh.itjust.worksto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why's everyone freaking out about Firefox Terms of Service? Isn't it Open Source?2·3 months agoHow can Firefox not be open source if its sources are under the MPL2 ?
It has always been the case that Firefox is a trademark and you can’t distribute it under that name. However if the code is open source the project is too.
