MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Technology@lemmy.world•It's Breathtaking How Fast AI Is Screwing Up the Education SystemEnglish34·2 天前if you’re in academia you should be able to produce a five paragraph essay.
So, K-12 is “academia” now?
Being able to produce a narrative is an essential life skill.
Lots of essential life skills are difficult for lots of people. Something we get reminded about every time it comes up by people who have no clue what they’re talking about yet see fit to tell others what they should and shouldn’t do, and how to feel about it.
The world isn’t going to cater to you
No fucking shit.
your self diagnosed executive dysfunction
I’m sorry Dr. Jackson, I’ll have to let my old neurologist, psychologist, neuropsychologist, and psychiatrist know that The Internet told me that the assessments I had done at ages 23 and 44 are all in my head.
learning to adapt is probably a useful habit.
You’re right! I’m just going to do that instead of being in constant psychological agony. Where were you all of my life? ❤️ If only I had someone talking down to me saying Just Do The Thing over and over again, from childhood onwards, life would have been so much easier.

MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Technology@lemmy.world•It's Breathtaking How Fast AI Is Screwing Up the Education SystemEnglish1520·2 天前Hi,
I would have failed every single one of your tests. Not because I don’t understand the material, or the English language, but because structured writing, to this day, makes me seize up. Blank space is one of my biggest triggers for executive dysfunction/PDA. Turning everything into a cookie-cutter essay is just a different form of trying to fit everyone into the same box. More selective than making everything multiple guess, but no better. I feel bad for your students.

I’ve got a disability hearing coming up. The meme and your comment have perfectly encapsulated my terror and dread. It feels like there’s no winning, and I’m preemptively angry.
Edit: see some of my recent comments for prime examples of why I have zero fucking faith in any of this shit.
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Mobile Suit Gundam@ani.social•Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX • Kidou Senshi Gundam GQuuuuuuX - Episode 7 discussionEnglish3·2 天前Xavier is Saji Crossroad with a dash of Suzaku Kururugi. I wasn’t sure which piece was missing, but the Gyancelot clicked things into place.
Another episode, another “Hey remember this character/reference? Doesn’t matter, we just needed someone to kill.”
Love that Challia hasn’t forgotten the mission.
So, uh, we gonna get a Brow Bro kit out of this? Can’t say I expected the little twist at the end.
Next episode looks like it’s going to be more flashback shown in the movie. Which, I’m kind of bummed to say, has been the strongest, most coherent part of this whole endeavor so far.
suspension of disbelief side rant
I really, really dislike in-colony battles. Is a suit explosion going to blow a hole in the colony wall? Or barely disturb the building next to it? Those shots you missed are hitting something, you’re completely surrounded by millions of people and critical infrastructure. The Psycho Gundam’s beam spam should have ripped the cylinder to shreds.

MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Mobile Suit Gundam@ani.social•Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX • Kidou Senshi Gundam GQuuuuuuX - Episode 7 discussionEnglish2·2 天前What does everyone think the “rose” is?
I had a shower thought the other day. What if the rose was Garma? And the entirety of GQX is just an elaborate fanship of extra-dimensional Char trying to get back with his long lost love?
Look, I didn’t say l liked the idea, just that it came to mind.
Anyway, given how much they’re leaning on UC lore to tie the original story bits together, my money is on Lalah being the rose (possibly in a role similar to Marion Welch, just not as extreme).
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which would give me more opportunities, studying devops or networks?2·2 天前I’m far from a networking expert, but I was usually the guy that had to reel the network guys back in when they said “you always blame the network” and stood around waiting to be proven in the wrong. It’s amazing what a couple tracert and continuous ping commands will show (and how little interest corporate IT shows in doing even the basics unless monitoring is under their team).
Saaaame oooooold schloooooonnng…
You’re not gonna believe this…
I strongly dislike cop shows. Never been a fan of the gangster aesthetic. Can sometimes tolerate superhero stuff but it’s not really my thing.
I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Gotham.
“Your inferiority complex.”
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Nintendo@lemmy.world•Better screws for the back of the Switch and Joy Cons to replace the tri wingsEnglish3·3 天前The Walkman is long gone, like 30+ years ago. Still have Optimus’s foot, though.
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netto Nintendo@lemmy.world•Better screws for the back of the Switch and Joy Cons to replace the tri wingsEnglish5·3 天前Thanks for the replacement tip. I’m not sure much is going to change moving forward though. Nonstandard screw heads are used to keep bored people (especially kids) out. Only the invisible sky wizard knows how much stuff was saved from my preteen curiosity by not being a Philips or flathead. (RIP my old Walkman, sorry I never figured out how to put you back together properly.) Do you know how tempting those clips on the top of NES carts were to me as a kid? I poked at them even knowing the security screws were there. Had those been anything I could undo with my dad’s tools, you bet your ass I’d have them disassembled, inspected, running back and forth across the carpeted floor (which also served as the work table) to get more carts, seeing if game boards could fit in another case to prank my brother, the whole nine yards.
If one of those ~$50 games ended up not working (whether by carpet-fueled ESD or a literal misstep or whatever), best case scenario is that I would have been out of a game if my parents didn’t find out. (Worst case, my mom wouldn’t be able to play Tetris anymore and I may not have survived third grade.) Because they certainly weren’t going to buy “it just stopped working” from the kid that disassembled Optimus Prime. I can see other parents buying the sob story though, making a big scene at the store or on the phone (and these days, online), demanding a refund/replacement regardless of warranty status.
Of course none of that impacts hobbyists - we just get the right tool and go to town. But nonstandard screw heads work well enough at keeping out kids (and idiots) that they’re likely here to stay.
And we both know the answer to the fastener quality issue: if you can shave a penny off of a part that’ll be used hundreds of millions of times, well, that’s what you’re gonna do. There’s precious little in the way of (regular) user-serviceable parts in anything anymore. The manufacturers don’t want us in there. Is that going to stop us? No.
We can hope for better, but IMO “this makes a great replacement part” is awesome info on its own.
Thanks for reading my very long-winded “thank you.” ^_^;
As a meta note, the .world Gundam/gunpla communities have been pretty dead for awhile. Mods are long gone. There was a more active Gundam comm on an instance that got shut down earlier in the year. A lot of us (relatively speaking, active users etc.) moved to !gundam@ani.social. Which isn’t much livelier but at the very least it’s actively modded.
Anyone can post wherever they like, just wanted to put the FYI out there.
