They may have moved on from the structure they had ~10 years ago but there was documentation and interviews about that internal structure. yes it worked similar to that, there where tasks to be done but employees could largely choose whatever they want to work on, there where no formal managers but plenty de facto managers, there was base pay scales but most of the pay was bonuses, that where indeed based on the reviews of your coworkers based on how much work/value you appeared to make for the company. Because valve is private is why it had such a unique structure. Alot of former employees spoke about how that pay structure killed alot of projects and deincetivised maintenance tasks. Then because there was no formal management, if you wanted to work on larger projects you had to convince coworkers to work with you there was no assigned teams or bosses, and if your project took longer then the year, it would be likely there would be no fruit of your labor and you would likely be rated lower, i.e. less pay. Of course no formal bosses does not mean there was not cliques employees that had been there longer and/or had more influence with more coworkers had more power to form teams and trusted when working longer projects, also employees would connect with coworkers so that the work they did would be noticed. Who completed your employee review would be basically random, so you had to hope/ensure everyone knew what you where doing.

Obviously there are alot of issues with this, I hope they have since moved on but last I heard there wasn’t much traction to change it. There is no board to appease and Gabe is the one who made the system, change is difficult for valve.

Yeah, also its less “valve staff get bored and dont do mundane tasks” iirc thier pay is based on what thier coworkers think the value of thier work was, which is usually in how visible/noticeable which discourages long projects thay take more than a year and mundane tasks that are not very clear and visible

No, these aren’t U.S. army troops, they are Californa Army National Gaurd not United States Army. They are California’s troops, not the U.S.'s the controversy in part was because its a deastic move for the federal government to yoink a states troops and the current situation nowhere near truly qualified.

As an educator, everyday we are told not to get reliant on what resources we have, we are taught how to ration our resources and to not ever expect anything good, whenever we get something expect its a one time thing, never to rely on future funds, if it isn’t in our hands it doesn’t really exist.

This is big, and it’s horrible but educators getting shafted is nothing new. I hope the funding is unfrozen, its clearly illegally withheld, but I know most educators affected are not going to get thier hopes up. being an educator in this country has long been a job for the desperate and the apparently masochist.

New mayor at least has got some infrastructure projects done, even if it seems half the money was embezzlemed. Compromise is good but also hard…sheriffs have been trying to crack down on atvs because quite alot of people here go around in atvs harassing pedestrians and homeless in the area. And no one feels safe being outside, some shootings every week or so

as for the busses theyve have been in a downward spiral the last 20 years. Shitty routes mean less riders, less riders mean less busses which means longer routes which means less riders. Regularly most of these big 40 something passenger busses they run have 1 passengers. Only people that take them are old, disabled, people that have no other choice.

For shits and gigles after they changed the route I used to take (was 40 min for that 14 miles 2 busses) I took the bus from where id need to commute. 3 busses, 14 miles. It took over 3 hours and the most egregious part was the longest leg which was the 3.5 miles on the local bus that went from my local grocery to my hosue that took a mind numbing 87 minutes. It makes me laugh how SLOW that bus ride was, now they canceled that one so you have to walk the 3~ miles but really you actually save time.

Alot of people are protesting turning ugly lots into affordable housing…ugh. Literally the reasons we can’t have nice things. “Parking in multistory garages instead of a giant 500 car lot so there affordable housing is unacceptable, its inconvenient and it will bring in undesirable” - basically Menlo

Friend of mine lives outside LA, they used a motel 6 into temporary housing for unhoused, no problem. They went to make it housing units for said homeless, locals got pissed, fought toooth and nail, said itd bring in undeasaribles, increase crime etc etc.

Officials were confused bcs the people they where complaining about had been living there for 3 years already jus they where converting it from “motel 6” to basically an apartment building. smh.

Mixed use buildings and affordable housing without needing cars is such a dream 15-20 minutes cycle would be nice, shame its so uncommon and so disliked by some people no one gets it. To my closest store its a 10 minute drive / ~hour walk (before they canceled the bus route it was also a bit over an hour but 2 hours back) city has a quarter mile / 0.4km of bike lane and alot of streets dont have sidewalks

Hmm, I haven’t fully looked into e-bikes. Maybe 60 minutes isn’t unachavaible. another problem is alot of the route doesn’t have sidewalks, let alone bike lanes…at least its paved.

= ( Everytime I see a fuck cars or pro bicycle post I get sad, sitting in my U.S. urban city. I want to ride a bike to work, I want to use public transport but 70 minutes one way by bike is a bit too long and its still half as long as taking the bus woukd take. and no I will never shut up my gripping that a 14 mile drive should not take 2.5 hours by bus. (For context my commute is 20-30 minutes by car)

Studies have found teachers are more likely to find the behavior of a male student wrong even if they did nothing wrong and/or the same behavior was done by a female student, they also will observe male students more then female.

Also, learning or behavioral conditions are less likely to be recognized in female studies. For example a young student that is hyper focused on rules, does not speak up, stays very still, etc when that is not age expected behavior, observers will commonly attribute such behavior as “lady like” and ignore obvios signs of behavioral conditions.
