The shit in these comments is why Lemmy is doomed to be a minor platform that will inevitably fizzle out.

Seriously people, there are other interests besides Linux and politics. If we bully out other interests from starting communities on Lemmy it’ll never grow out of obscurity… some may like that but I’d personally like to see it grow into something that can actually compete with Reddit.

I say this as someone who doesn’t like sports at all, but we have these magical things called filters for people like me!

Matrix needs more time in the oven before it’s ready for widespread adoption.

I really did try to make it work (for months) but it’s a buggy and unpolished experience, everyone that tried it with me ended up going back to Discord and Signal for communication.

The biggest lie I was ever told was “these are the best years of your life” growing up, and frankly that made me want to end it all. Things have ONLY been uphill since the end of high school.

Kids and teenagers especially are all awful creatures. School showed me that, then six years in the pet industry watching how they behave around animals solidified it for me.

I’m running Gnome on Nobara, switching between Wayland and Xorg there’s a noticable difference in the vibrancy of the colors. Xorg and Windows both look fine, it’s specifically under Wayland that everything dulls out. Multiple displays, displayport/hdmi makes no difference.

That said, this problem doesn’t affect everyone. Makes it much harder to troubleshoot. Color profiles don’t alter anything, I don’t have an HDR display and most of the forums I’ve found regarding this are having issues with HDR.

I have no idea at this point and limited free time to work on it when Xorg has been working fine. That said, I figured I’d throw it out there in a thread where people are praising Wayland to see if someone knows something I’ve missed. XD

The vast majority of digital purchases are licenses, this isn’t something new or unique to Steam. Digital purchases where you actually own the product are more the exception than the rule.

Wayland seems to have problems showing colors properly. I was trying to fix this issue myself a couple weeks ago.

Colors in Xorg and Windows(gross) show properly, Wayland always looks dull and muted in comparison. Switching color profiles didn’t change anything.

But hey, maybe there’s a fix I haven’t tried yet that works… I sure would hate to be proven wrong! No seriously, if someone has a fix for the dull colors I would likely start using Wayland again.

Well, that’s… less than ideal. I use a couple of their services, it was a royal pain in the ass to get all my email stuff moved over to Proton in the first place.

I’ll have to keep an eye on what they’re doing, I’ll take this as a warning sign. I’m moving most of my stuff to self host anyway, with the exception of email.

I tried my hand at running a Matrix server with a couple of friends. Less than successful. Constant bugs and minor irritations that most people (and myself, eventually) don’t want to deal with.

From notification problems, to decryption problems, to audio calls not working if the app isn’t open on the screen for the entire call…

I really like the idea of Matrix, but it needs another few years in the oven before it’s even remotely acceptable to recommend to friends or family. Most people have a hard enough time switching to something like Signal because battery optimization kills notifications, let alone something as convoluted as Matrix/Element.

Man I wish it was a nothing story. A friend of mine had MAID suggested to her after she spent only a couple days in the hospital for having a suicidal episode (mental health, long story but she’s doing much better now… so why the fuck was it brought up after only two days there?!). Guess that’s the result of my province’s healthcare being gutted like a fish. Thanks conservative government!

MAID is important, don’t get me wrong. People can keep their fucking gods out of healthcare in general. But saying that mistakes aren’t being made with it is ignoring a problem.

I think the point of my comment is being missed a bit here friend. Servers and backend use Linux, sure. The actual number of Linux users is likely under reported as you say.

But I have yet to see Linux used as a workstation OS in a place of business. Every doctor, insurance broker, banker, registry, and retail place I’ve visited were using Windows machines to access their infrastructure. If Windows creates vulnerabilities at entry and exit points it can still compromise information.

I ended up switching to Gnome because KDE would always feel a bit jank to me. Something about it always feels slightly off, animations not working properly or being choppy like my desktop had an unstable framerate. Might just be it fighting with Nvidia, but I don’t have several hundred bucks lying around to upgrade my card and switch to AMD…

Kind of odd seeing the massive hate boner the community seems so have for Gnome, at least we have options for desktop environments at all.

The one thing Google still has over Duck for me at this point is reddit results. So much niche information is stored on that site, but they’ve blocked anyone other than Google from crawling the site so other engines can’t index past the point they changed that policy.
