Technology@lemmy.zip•Looks Like We Can Finally Kiss the Metaverse GoodbyeEnglish
21·10 days agoFor real, they should have either bought or cloned VRChat as a first step, and then looked into expanding from there. That shit is a metaverse that people willing go into primarily because it enables a ton of free expression.
Can electroplasma be used to spin a turbine? Asking for a friend.

Steam@lemmy.ml•Valve is about to win the console generationEnglish
0·1 month agoNot really interested in the Machine but the Controller v2 and the Frame look absolutely perfect. Especially that controller - every single annoyance about the v1 seems to have been addressed, from the lack of a real D pad to the ease of accidentally touching the trackpad without meaning to.
Unfortunately for Valve, I’m the type of person who will continue using my Index and Controller v1 until they literally disintegrate in my hands, which hasn’t happened yet because they made them so high quality in the first go around, so I probably won’t be buying either for a while if ever.

Learned this the hard way when I was nineteen. Had a fat ass Alienware, top of the line everything, played Crysis, lasted about one day past the warranty and promptly died.
About four years ago I bought a laptop for work, an old Thinkpad. It was used when I got it and it’s still kicking. Runs a web browser just fine (and stuff like PuTTy and Teams) and can hang with indie games.
The only reason I would consider buying a laptop that’s more than a web browser/video streaming machine now is if I really needed to be able to use it as a tablet for art and stuff.
just have public toilets my god

It’s always projection. Even if they’re not literally doing the thing that they accuse their opponent of doing yet, the fact that they’re making the accusation reveals their intention.
Ah shit, this means they’re gonna do everything they made up about Xinjiang (if they’re not doing it already at the alligator place)

RPGMemes @ttrpg.network•Hot take: Strongest creatures in the setting shouldn't just be clowned by PCs with no resistance.English
7·5 months agoThis is very game dependent. Right now I’m in a pretty brutal one where everyone is branded by the goddess of mind control and we have miniboss encounters with our own former PCs who’ve been turned into grotesque monsters - but I’ve also played in games where the PCs were newcomers to Olympus and more or less ended up recreating the first few God of War games.
It’s too case by case to make a sweeping statement. Sometimes a pet’s quality of life is extremely bad, sometimes an animal’s instincts will tell it to stop eating, sometimes you could have an old pet that does that and think that they’re going but then it turns out they have a totally treatable kidney issue and go on to live five more years after two weeks of pills. That last one happened to me with my thirteen year old cat who went on to live until eighteen.
I wouldn’t put down an animal unless they were suffering and an expert told me there was no way out of it - but of course that’s easy to say in isolation, when in the real world vet visits cost money. I guess what I’m saying is that I wouldn’t judge someone on the decision they made for their pet unless it seemed that they were acting without compassion and didn’t consider all alternatives.
