Russia isn’t Nazi Germany, the situation is far more akin to the WW1.

Ukraine is enacting mass conscription now, is including their medical staff, is trying to make students leave their studies to join up, has expanded conscription to 16 year olds and grandads, and is actively trying to draw in EU/NATO countries in the frey risking all out war (Romania is the latest one).

We are talking hundreds of thousands of casualties, an entire generation of Ukrainian either maimed, dead, or gone from Ukraine out right,mass sweeping liberalization reforms in an already poor as fuck country destroying the few labour rights that existed before the war. Members of pacifist organizations are being put on trial. And that’s the state that you libs are defending?

The war is not going well.

And to be clear, neither is it for Russia. Principled communists and anti-war people are being arrested too, and the initial partial mobilization brought people to th front who would rather have not. There is similar repression, and economic hardship to the common people. There also was mass emigration (particularly to Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, and others).

What is it you want really?

Have more common people die for nothing? Escalate things to “deal with Russia” which means inherently an overt NATO/Russia war (which it seems barring the Baltic members, no one wants) inevitably leading to all out nuclear war?

Libya today is a haven for islamic terrorism and slaver markets. Regardless of the “legality” of the NATO (mostly french and US led) intervention, it threw the entire region in outright chaos, and was enormously damaging to the working class of Lybia, but also of the entire fucking Sahel.

No the real answer is these people somehow think their constant egging on escalation instead of some sort of diplomatic resolution, won’t eventually lead inevitably to the war escaping its proxy status and evolve into a REAL inter-imperialist direct confrontation with all of what it implies (it implies nukes)

That the “critical support to Russia” people are ultra minoritarian in the world communist movement, whereas the majority condemns BOTH NATO’s role since 2014 (and prior) in precipating the situation leading to the Russian invasion, AND Russia for well, invading? Some even saying this war is one of inter-imperialist competition or close to one? That there is no good side but that of seeking peace asap for the sake of the working class, given the possibility of turning this bourgeois war into a revolutionary class war in both Ukraine, Russia, and the west is impossible atm?

The original Ukrainian-Canadian population (and their organizations) were by and large ardent socialist supporters, and played a huge role in the strengthening of organized labour and various socialist and communist organisations (such as the communist party of canada!). They supported the USSR and saw it as an inspiration. Most of them had left before 1917. The Association of United Ukrainian Canadians is an inheritence from this time and still controls a bunch of Ukrainian labour temples. They ARE quite small compared to the other ones, particularly the fascist / banderist UCC.

It gets much darker post WW2, when Canada brought in thousands of nazi collaborators (one of the qualifications for getting in was showing your nazi tattoo…). They then went in a frontal attack on progressive and socialist Ukrainian community orgs, with the Canadian government actively helping the then nascent UCC gain hegemony. Huge ties with the OUN fascists abound, and many nazi collaboration statues can be found across the country.

So basically; your comment is accurate in its depiction of post WW2 Ukrainian immigrants, but not accurate prior to that, and kind of erases the awesome and good folks of the AUUC trying their hardest to counteract the UCC today. Especially right now in their attempts to organize recent Ukrainian immigrants, many of which are not politicized and generally not particularly fascist or anything. The UCC leadership actually has huge contempt for them (after all they ran away from the “good fight”!), but are doing a lot of efforts to radicalize them on arrival.

So how were they benefitting? Or do you mean to say the US and allied forces allowed mass poppy crop farming that was then utilized by the Taliban to fund itself? You know there is an alternative hypothesis: the US and other occupation allied forces tolerated poppy farming to pacify and win over tribal chiefs and keep corrupt Afghan officials squarely on their side. Maybe both were happening, who is to say.

Well I mean barring your personal dislike of the source, it does report an objective fact: opium cash crop farming exploded under the US / Joint alliance occupation and decade+long anti insurgency war, and died out once they left.

And this objective fact DOES raise important questions: what in the hell was the US doing all this time? They had infinitely more resources than the Talibans do now to subsidize non opium crops for farmers, to encourage diversification and development, etc. Did they turn a blind eye to the mass scale poppy farming? If so, why? It generated huge sums, was it a strategic use of and encouragement of corruption of local Afghan administrators and tribal elite to “make the occupation easier”? Did some money return to western elements? What was the impact on world trafficking?

Like you can dislike mintpress news but IMO it’s important to, now that the US/West occupation of Afghanistan is over, not swipe it all under the rug and investigate.
