Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Lemmings who still don't want to use AI, why?English
1·8 days agoTechnically, I do sometime read the AI overview when I search something. But I don’t use any other AIs. I just don’t have a need to. Normal chatbots always felt so hollow to me, like I couldn’t sense any humanity in them or something. Making them smarter doesn’t look like it has helped. The screen shots I see make AI look incredibly sycophantic and like it’s trying too hard to sound human. It comes off even more off putting to me. I do sometimes come up with idea that could make use of image generation, but I have made the decision that if I want an image, I can either pay someone to do it, or do it myself. Most of the time it leads to me not doing anything with the idea. But that’s fine. But I do still sometimes work up the drive to actually try to draw though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?English
3·5 months agoYes, this. The best multi tool is the one you have on you on when you need it, and with one of these on my keys, I comes in handy more often then I thought it would.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some good places/activities where a middle-aged man can make new friends?English
1·5 months agoYeah, they might, but I have also seen someone that required a wheelchair perform, and they did a great job. As someone that doesn’t have a disability that interferes with movement, it’s hard for me to say much about performing improv from that perspective, but I think it’s worth a shot. I understand trying to be realistic about what you can and can’t do, but I also think it’s important to try and stretch yourself to see what’s possible. But again, I don’t know your situation or your perspective, so I could be talking out of my ass here. Beginner classes are usually very casual and low stakes, focused on just having fun, getting out of your comfort zone, and learning the basics.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some good places/activities where a middle-aged man can make new friends?English
2·5 months agoI recommend taking an improv class. I recently started taking classes and it’s been a lot of fun and pretty challenging at times. Taking classes and being that vulnerable with others basically streamlines the friend making process. My class group usually goes out to a bar to hang out and chat after class every week, and we have been inviting others to hang out periodically. It’s absolutely disabled people friendly too (At least my theater is, they have a ramp for the stage and everything.) you can also learn some skills to help become better at communication and ease social anxiety. I’ve really noticed the changes in my life.
It’s a daunting idea, but it so worth giving it a shot
Oh! Ok cool. I’m waiting to to watch the newest season of game changer with my partner. thanks for the info.
Do you remember what what show and episode this was?
I feel this so much. Just leave me alone until I can calm myself down enough to function like normal. But no, clearly when I was screaming at my parents to just leave me alone, that was, for some reason, the exact opposite of what they thought they need to do.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Something something far-leftEnglish
14·6 months agoThat’s the part I don’t understand. Why do they not realize that if you give people enough money to pay living expenses and then some, they will spend more money. What is the point of having all the money stuck at the top? A thriving economy requires money to circulate, but its getting caught between the same handful of greedy assholes. And they seem to just want to make the problem worse. If they do that, the economy will collapse and then all that money will be worthless anyway.

4·7 months agoI fear there might be too many people that will just want to go back to status quo, and not change things to prevent this from happening again. Especially since the banks and corporations will be wanting nothing to fundamentally change so they can keep exploiting people.
But hopefully I’m just being pessimistic

131·7 months agoWe have a large population that totally checks out of politics. There lives are rarely effected all that much by it… Until now. People are starting to wake up, the tides are beginning to change. It’s happening a lot slower then it should have, and it’s scary how far this regime is getting before we get our shit together, but it is slowly happening.

1·8 months agoYes, that is also something you can practice and get better at. Every aspect of Art is something you need to practice at to get better at. im not arguing that skill with an art tool is important to being an artist. I’m only arguing that AI isn’t a tool, it’s a shortcut that tarnishes artistic integrity at best. And at worst, it takes the place of an artist and the user becomes nothing more then the commissioner. (Hence why you can’t copy write AI “art”, it legally not something you made.)
I’m sorry, how is a favorable view on AI “art” not the “STEM view” of things? It literally lacks all connection between life and art. It’s just a fucking algorithm. I’m the one saying a connection between life and art is important for it to be art.

4·8 months agoOh my God! Someone else that enjoys being put under! I wouldn’t say it is quite pleasurable, but definitely a fun experience. It’s like time travel. You remember them telling you to count down from ten, you get to 7-6 and then BAM, you are waking up after the operation is done. I’ve had 3 surgeries and they have all been pretty fun experiences, but to be fair, I’ve never had complications and non of them were life threatening.

1·8 months agoNow you are just arguing in circles. All it takes is practice. And if they truly don’t want to do the work themselves, working with an artist can be a very rewording experience. Will hiring an artist cost money? Yes, but then you get to directly support the people making your idea come to fruition. Instead of using AI that steals those artists work to train it’s algorithm and does nothing to support artist.

1·8 months agoOk, creativity is also something you can practice and get better at. I funny that in the first part, you mention creating art with “emotional and intellectual meaning” and then still support AI “Art” that lacks much of that.

Yeah, it’s a tough decision. I just don’t want to be too late.
