Partially agreed. This post would have been better if it was actually showing off the shirt (hard or not), without including blatant interaction bait like the cropped porn patch on the hat.

Linux@lemmy.ml•So close yet so far. Why must hardware support be so weird?
2·10 days agoMaybe it was merged into the mainline kernel already but your distribution still has the older package?

Right. Nowadays we only have ff and chromium forks, some really tiny browsers that only render HTML/XHTML 4, and two huge unoptimized & unfinished pieces of software that render ok for some sites and really really wrong on others.

1·11 days agoActually, webpages that mention it get blocked from what I’ve heard. But there’s no way to know if a videogame chat will have it (especially if TLS/SSL is used), so it wouldn’t happen there.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux is awesome at home, but aren't y'all forced to use Windows at work?
11·11 days agoNo idea how good whatever “Bluefin” is, but if their front page makes my computer lag much worse than actual videogames, it’s really not a good first impression.
Also, it seems to come with Gnome which is a bit further away in terms of user experience from Windows than the other choices like Plasma and Enlightenment, so I am not sure if whoever sits in them cubicles will get used to the lack of tray icons for example. Well, assuming they know what a tray icon is, but even if they don’t, they are gonna get a bigger “something’s off/missing” feeling than otherwise. And I am assuming nobody is using Windows 8 specifically, so it will take some time for people to get used to the excuse of a start menu Gnome has. Have to always be pessimistic about user’s intelligence and will to adapt.

Centurii chan@sh.itjust.works•I upgraded to windows 11 by accidentally pressing spacebar on startupEnglish
0·14 days agoOh, nothing wrong with Fedora specifically. I also recommend Fedora KDE to people like this.
But, imagine you saw someone use a project somewhere online and you want to try it’s not popular enough to be in the repos. Now you have to git clone --depth 1 --recursive blah blah blah, source ~/cflags.sh, mkdir build, cd build, cmake …, make -j4…
Doesn’t sound difficult. But over time, your home directory becomes FULL of random ass git repositories. AND your /usr/local/bin is full of outdated stuff, sometimes overwriting updated stuff in /usr/bin. Having the AUR reduces that significantly.

0·14 days agoI feel like the only “good” distributions nowadays are Arch and NixOS (everywhere else, you become a construction worker every time you want a slightly niche program), while both having shitty stereotypes about users. And Arch currently only properly works on amd64. And NixOS’s model isn’t for everyone…

3·18 days agoUkrainian here, smaller town. Most stuff is purchased on a street market a.k.a. bazaar. But there are also two competing grocery chains, Tavria V and ATB. It’s like RED and BLU. Left twix / right twix situation. They are everywhere. Anything that isn’t no-name (and is food) is probably cheaper there than at a bazaar. Though I once saw them sell tiny ass stollen loafs for 12 whole bucks because “it’s a slightly niche foreign recipe so it must be expensive” (and same with pretty much everything else in there). Might not sound like a lot but this is a week worth of (other) food, idk how much stollen costs for neighboring countries but went on amazon.de and scrolled for a little bit to find a similar thing for 2 euro.
Bigger cities have one or two really large (3+ story) buildings, which are renting spaces for the two competiting grocery chains, arcade halls, casinos, pizza/burger stuff and small stores selling random foods by weight. When one enters, all sense of time is lost.
