Dropping that slogan must have been a fun board meeting.
“I think we should move away from not calling ourselves evil”
“…why?”
“Well you know…just in case we need to do something a teensy bit evil”.
Marxist-Leninist. Tankie. Based in the imperial vassal state of Japan.

It has decidedly pro-socialist themes (as did the first game). Which should not be remotely surprising coming from a studio named Fellow Traveler.
There are at least two worker co-ops/revolutions you can assist with.
McCarthy would be so proud of the present day US. Rampant sinophobia and russiophobia.
Has the US started a program for reporting your neighbors of suspected communism yet? Maybe they can get the Marvel superheros to do an anti-communism infomercial.
US gov is rapidly banning it on government devices, I assume that this will become a federal position sometime soon. At the same time they are adopting OpenAI for security purposes.
NASA apparently just banned DeepSeek as well. Like China’s aerospace program needs anything from NASA, they’ve well surpassed them at this point.
What in the world is going on in US aviation recently? Isn’t this the third or fourth aviation accident in a week over there?
Just started playing Citizen Sleeper 2. Really enjoyed the first one, and the second one seems to be pretty similar. Great writing and a pretty good adaptation of some TTRPG mechanics. My only real complaint has been that it can be hard to track what is going on at locations you aren’t currently at.
I am looking forward to Civ VII and Monster Hunter Wilds…both which hit this month, unfortunately for my free time. I have no idea if it comes out this year but I am very interested in Endless Legend 2 as well.
My Switch 1 was probably the least used console I have ever bought, it basically existed as my girlfriend’s animal crossing box, so I doubt I will consider the Switch 2 honestly. Especially since I have a steam deck now.
They are absolutely THRILLED that Trump won. It means that they get to pat themselves on the back about being the heroic main character fighting against the evil empire. For four years! When in reality they are a mid-level bureaucrat that never made a stand against anything fascist in their life.
If Harris had won, they wouldn’t have been as able to yell about what a heroic sacrifice they were making. They would have had to subsist on fantasizing about swooping in to “liberate Taiwan” and being feted by the people there.
This is just an absolutely badass achievement, can’t even bring myself to meme about how the west will try to gloss over it. Over 1,000 seconds is a pretty big milestone as far as I am aware.
They’ll use whatever resources they have available to them to do that. AI is probably a drop in the bucket, but I am sure it has been experimented with to some degree.
Often yes. It depends on how much time I have at that moment and whether I am in an environment that is conducive to longform reading (at my desk) or not (my phone). Probably 70-30 or so overall?
I am not a big social media user but I downloaded xiaohongshu just to see how things were going there firsthand.
It was downright heartwarming.
Chinese users being incredibly open to people coming on to the platform, going out of their way to provide messages in English and tutorials on how things work. Obviously it is a great chance for them to expand their viewership too. USians to their credit, being pretty humble and often even trying to use some mandarin or express interest in learning it. A lot of questions that seem to stem from legitimate curiosity as opposed to any kind of maliciousness. Legitimately some of the most positive social media I think I have ever seen in my life.
Will people stick with it? I have no idea, but I can only hope a little bit of the attitude sticks around longterm.
I don’t keep up with him, because why would I, but did Hinkle get banned from some Chinese platforms or something?
I don’t really use most social media anymore except Lemmy, but I poked around on it a bit. It is kind of fun to see the Chinese and US interactions. I doubt I would stick with it, I just don’t really “get” social media. I am glad it exists though and serves an audience that would benefit from it.
I read through this and I hate it.
Author apparently regularly speaks at the UN and is writing a book on ethical AI? I see we are off to a great start. And by the second paragraph we already have:
But dig a little deeper, and the reality becomes far more insidious.
Every post, like, and comment exists in an ecosystem designed to prioritize “core socialist values” over freedom of speech.
Remind me which country is the one banning TikTok and censoring speech?
For instance, posts addressing politically sensitive issues, such as criticism of Chinese cybersecurity laws or advocacy for human rights in Xinjiang, have reportedly been flagged or removed
Assuming they even are (note reportedly), not really a bad thing. You don’t need to sell me on the platform more Jason.
In a report by China Digital Times, RedNote’s (Xiaohongshu) content moderation includes strict guidelines for handling “sudden incidents,” a term used to describe politically or socially sensitive topics.
One might assume that China Digital Times is a Chinese newspaper as the name might suggest to a layperson. However, they are based in California and have direct connections to the US government. Hardly an unbiased source to be citing.
By exporting a content control and surveillance model, RedNote challenges the open exchange of ideas on which democracy depends.
If the open exchange of ideas is that critical to democracy, isn’t the US a more egregious offender? All of this stems from the US’s instigating actions, China did literally nothing except provide a service that they have provided for years.
Joining RedNote has also brought Westerners closer to Chinese citizens than ever before.
Framing this as a negative, even subtly, is arguably the most evil thing in an article chock full of propaganda.
“Exports censorship” Weird, and here I thought that Red was the one freely available everywhere and TikTok was the one being censored by the USians.
It will just be the US playing whack-a-mole with Chinese social media platforms and losing a bit more credibility every time they do.
“The US is upset that China is” is probably enough of a headline already.
But it is okay, YouTube told me they will collapse any day now! Annnnny day now.
So in an attempt to thwart imagined Chinese propaganda, USians have pushed their user base into actual Chinese platforms. If even a portion of those users come to the realization that China are not evil harry potter villains, it would be a net win.
I would say it is one of the US’s bigger own-goals, but they have had so many.
Over the land of the freeeeee* and the home of the brave*!
*Terms and conditions may apply. Freedom only applies where designated by figure of authority. Contact your local nobleman to see if freedom applies to you. Bravery subject to availability and may not be present.
US speedrunning driving their economy into the ground. I would be curious to see if this is just a momentary blip or actually some kind of long running sanction.
There are so many things I get from China that I would be missing out on if I were in the US. Nevermind the most simple things like care packages for people living overseas.
