Speaking of which, I haven’t quite understood what happened to make Razira ask Konsi out

Konsi was originally flirting with her and Razira was oblivious. Now suddenly Razira has asked her out, but Konsi is the one being oblivious/ not believing it

What happened to cause this sudden change?

Konsi wasn’t really deliberately flirting, she doesn’t really think of herself as “date material”. She was just “I want to help this person” or “I like spending time with this person” - and acting in a fairly innocent good-hearted manner. The joke in our sessions was always that she was inadvertently saying things that could be misconstrued as flirting, out of pure innocence.

For Razira, the big difference was mostly time - they went on an adventure together, and then they entered a period of ~6 months of downtime. This is at the end of that downtime period - Razira just had some time to think about her feelings.

I didn’t originally design these comics to be a thorough “narrative” - My comic hasn’t has an ongoing “narrative” before these, just “gag a strip” style standalone comics, and the first Konsi comic is #771. Konsi’s comics were just more opportunities for gag comics. She was my character in a DnD campaign, and those provide a lot of material for joking around. (If you read my archive, I’ve been through ~5 other character parties throughout the course of my comic, these guys are just my current game.) So… the comics weren’t really intended to provide a full picture of the campaign story - Could you tell that these guys started out doing the Dragon Heist campaign? I specifically avoided any DH content so as to not spoil the module for anyone.

The comic where Razira asking Konsi out on a date is however, a departure from my normal form. It is intended to be the start of an actual “story arc”… so there’s more of a consistent narrative to follow from that point on. When I wrote that comic, I’d scripted out about six back-to-back story comics for how the date night went, starting with her asking Konsi out, and ending with (a future comic where Konsi sings a song) - as I’ve been making them, I’ve fleshed that arc out with a lot more comics and jokes though, both between the ends I’d planned, and significantly after the fact.

First dates are replete with opportunities for shenanigans, and I’m taking full advantage of this.

A lot of people have been enjoying the more “plot arc” based format, so when this one finishes, I’ll do some more stand alone gags, then maybe follow another arc from somewhere in our campaign (there’s a few good ones)

Oh, I see! The “if you wish anything you have to but ask” with the small hair-over-mouth thing seemed direct to me, but this additional context helps ^^

Also, thanks for sharing campaign detail of how it went live! It’s always fun to know how it played you in the table =)

Now that I already know the character, I have to say I’m really liking this approach and getting to follow her on a narrative ^^
