Can anyone translate this? I think it’s Ottoman Turkish, I could be wrong
yes this is in ottoman turkish.
top two lines: “bütün dünya işçileri birleşse rahmet dünyaya hakim olacaktır” translation: “if all the workers of the world unite, mercy will rule the world”
right middle is the number 12.
left middle is abbreviation ş.h. but i don’t know what that stands for. the communist party at that time was sosyalist fırka so it would be s.f so i can’t take another guess.
edit: fixed the last word.
Thank you for your translation
no problem. it’s a really cool find.
Yes, it’s Ottoman Turkish.
I am a Turk, btw.
Where did you get this? Etsy? Ebay?
I found in a antique shop, while visiting Xi’an, China.
Were you just there?
I’m going in 2025.
Yes, just came back. Xi’an is very beautiful. Also, lots of Muslims there so finding halal food wasn’t a problem. And a lot of ancient places to explore
I mean, I don’t “plan” to go to Xi’an so far, but I’ve thought of it.
I want to go to Xinjiang.
I plan to go to Xi’an. Is that in Xinjiang?
More to the east. It’s the traditional eastern terminus of the silk road, also often served as capital during history.
Oho, nice
I should go there, but I want to prioritize Chongqing.
Good news! They’re a 6 hour trip from one another on high speed rail, with one change.
There were Soviet Ottomans?
There were communist Turks.
That’s true! Kaypakkaya!
Yeah, but Kaypakkaya is the overrated one that only Westerners know.
(But what happened to him was horrible, no denying.)
But the communist movement in Turkey is powerful, historically, compared to other communist movements that didn’t achieve full power. I’d say that places that have big communist movements but aren’t AES is Nepal, India, and that kingdom in Africa that I forgot the name of…
Who else would you recommend in Turkey?
Look into the TKP’s history.
Especially in the lead-up to the 1980 coup.
oh yeah

If you ever feel depressed in the Western core…remember there were communists in the Ottoman empire that likely lived through the collapse.
