I don’t even bother, because the people in my family who are farthest down the rabbit hole tend to be the ones who argue by talking over the other person.

I just write them off as a lost cause and pointedly leave the room when they go off the chain.

I struggle with this because if there is no one or nothing to challenge their beliefs then what’s going to make them change. I too take this approach for my own convenience until they say something unacceptable, usually racist.

I know that in my line of work if I didn’t talk to anyone else or refused to consider other methods then my approach to a problem will be severely myopic and I’ll get crucified in reviews. I don’t know how to address them talking over me, but I know if I don’t challenge them somewhat then the behavior won’t change.

They are not arguing honestly, they did not require logic or factual reasoning to get to their position, they have 24/7 365 access to people who will reinforce their position. You would be wasting your time attempting to convince them away from their position.

It’s not about convincing them insomuch as stopping the contagious ignorance from spreading. Even if no ground will be made with the crazy uncle at Thanksgiving, one might ensure the nephew grows up to be a free thinker.

Sure, but i would argue that a direct talk with the impressionable bystanders would be more fruitful then arguing with these people. But i do get it as a means to vent frustration, just got to know what to expect

Thanks for at least calling it a republic even if it doesn’t look much like one anymore. The people should rule but we have elite people behind the curtain pulling the strings.

Calling what a Republic? Rome? There’s no other country implied in this meme, but I bet I know exactly which country you’re talking about…

Ngl I chuckle every time someone brings up that the US is a Republic not a democracy as if a Republic isn’t a type of democracy
