Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV is reportedly setting his sights on running for mayor of Caloocan in 2025, setting himself up for a faceoff with the Malapitan family that has ruled the city for over a decade.

An Iskooper told Politiko that Trillanes has started making the rounds of communities in Caloocan to listen to people’s concerns and touch base with local leaders.

Now that’s a career trajectory I wasn’t expecting. Maybe he’s seen the writing on the wall that the masses don’t want him as a legislator anymore.

But I’m rooting for him simply because we need to tear down dynasties.

Why Caloocan tho? ‌I’d understand kung taga-roon talaga siya, but even then, local politics is a very different beast than national politics, so I am not sure he’d easily make the jump.

I am not excusing political dynasties, but fighting them in the political arena is a very difficult battle. He must be very prepared for it, and be willing to have more than one go at it.
