The network Burggit is on is experiencing performance issues. I’d encourage everyone to use shota.nu for right now if you can. I talked to the host about this and evidently it’s an upstream issue with the datacenter.
The datacenter is refusing to help out with this and thinks everything is working fine so there’s plans for migrating to a new datacenter that are underway sometime soon. So in the meantime, I’m afraid we need to just grin and bear it.
Lemmy errors out if the NFS mount is nonresponsive. It doesn’t like not being able to access the huge swathe of pictures that are stored on the server. I’ve switched the NFS mount to TCP and have it retry the connection every second in an effort to mitigate the severe packet loss.
As I was composing this, the packet loss shot up to 90% so I don’t think even that will help…
That’s really all I can do for right now. I wish there was more that I could do to resolve this… 😔
We’re hitting another spike of perf issues. Expect the site to be slow for right now.
Is this related to the recent upload errors I’ve been getting?
For now I’ve been using Links to upload stuff. I’m the founder of r/CultureImpact and the leading mod of r/okbuddytrailblazers (not to confuse with r/okbuddytrailblazer who are anti-loli)
And my goal has been to port as many users as I can out of roughly 60K towards Burggit,
And will continue to do so. introduce them to the beauty our great Netherlands provides.

Ja, Hallo, gegroet landgenoten!
Hahaha =) I’m doing my best in helping spread the word of this platform, since incompetent and powerhungry leadership has lead to a spiral of cancel culture on platforms such as Reddit.
The internet truly needed a place like Burggit.
But I can see how the lack of being able to upload images directly is deterring some people at the current moment, I see a couple of my Burggits have been experiencing quite some steady growth. But people also stopped posting for a few days now.
Not really complaining btw, I’m giving feedback of what I’m experiencing, I want this place to grow and evolve into a platform that becomes lively and stands tall, and I will help wherever I can.
I also noticed you guys want feedback for future updates, will share some stuff on said post later. (I don’t have blocks of code like some others, but I’ll spitball some reasonable ideas)
For now I’ve been using Links to upload stuff.
Even before the performance degredation, it was recommended to use shota.nu for file uploads since it “saves us storage and will result in less upload failures because the built-in Lemmy uploader sucks” (from the Burggit tip).
This should be fixed. I goofed somewhere when I was trying to fix a separate annoying issue. I rolled back the changes and I’ll have to take a stab at it later whenever I’m feeling up to it. For glaring issues like this, please ping me on Matrix. I don’t bite, and it’s the fastest way to get ahold of me.
Bit late to replying, but I do not have/use Matrix, so wouldn’t be sure how to get a hold of you there.
Down to learn tho. Got a link to read up on it, and how to find you on there?
I am looking for various places that also express a similar level of free thought and sexual content such as Burggit, that have a more Discord form of concept, having a sort of “server with channels”. I found Revolt a while ago which is acting on somewhat of a grey area due to still being obscure and not used so much yet. But in essence Revolt also does not outright allow cunny, and acts upon laws from their respective base countries. And Discord has started taking more and more action. A lot of the chat platforms that do allow it, are so barebones though that there’s not much reason to use it at that point.
But a completely loli friendly backup is something me and my community have been looking for. Of which Burggit is currently our main one. Since all of us actually come from Reddit, which is just Burggit, but for Karens. We use Reddit/Discord a lot on tandem. And want to transition this towards using Burggit/Something as our new core, our goal is to be a safe haven for the “okbuddy” members that don’t get cancelled left and right by oversensitive and overreactive westerners. Just wish another Dutchie would make a Chat Platform though and apply the same policies as you do. (Dutch myself, but sadly don’t have the experience to create anything of the sort.)
It’s similar in concept to the fediverse on here. You pick your home server which would be something like cutefunny.art, uddu.chat, matrix.org, etc. and you go to your destination room/space, in this case, you’d go to https://matrix.to/#/#burggit:burggit.moe
Interesting, and is anime cunny 100% allowed on Matrix/Element if you create your own space etc? Just like here on Burggit.
It depends on the policies of the home server. It’s technically allowed on Burggit’s space, but we’ve never had any requests for such a room on here. Most of what gets discussed is technical issues with the site, giving updates on matters, etc.
Seems everything it’s working ok. At least for me.
Glad to hear. It’s not an all the time thing, though. The network becomes flaky every now and again and sometimes the packet routing just flat out dies for no apparent reason. Hence, why Burggit is seen as being down sometimes.
Anyone else using Sync for Lemmy whose app is crashing upon scrolling down the subscribed feed while signed in to Burggit?
This doesn’t seem to happen when browsing using my accounts on lemmy.world
Not able to duplicate this on v23.11.29. You select the subscribed button and scroll down to achieve this crashing behavior?
I’m on the same version.
I’ve set it so that my home feed is set to “Subscribed” and then when I scroll normally, the app crashes.
The crashing specifically happens when I am scrolling through the “Subscribed” feed while signed in to my Burggit account.
This doesn’t happen on the “Everything” feed or any other feed in Burggit. This also doesn’t happen on any other lemmy site.
Will test this out tomorrow on another device to check.
Can you check the current status of each community you’ve subscribed to? burggit removes content from communities whose instances have defederated but i haven’t seen this remove subscriptions from users (which would probably take significant additional effort to implement as doing it properly would require sending unsubscription requests to communities in newly defederated instances). I’m suspecting there’s an unhandled attempt to fetch content from one such community.
I unsubscribed from one community from rqd2.net and it fixed my issue. But it’s weird that that fixed it since Burggit is still federated with rqd2
I tried setting subscribed to default like you had and am still not able to duplicate this. I forgot to point out that this is a fresh install, so maybe clearing data/reinstalling the app is in order?
I primarily use Burggit in a PWA on mobile since it seems to work pretty darn well by default. I’m on Android 13 too if that matters.
I’ve figured out the reason, but not exactly. The cause of this crash has something to do with the specific customization settings of my Sync app.my Sync backup file. Please try to Restore this backup file to your Sync app and see if you can reproduce the crashI don’t know exactly why the crash only happens on the “Subcribed” feed on Burggit and not in any other lemmy sitesI unsubscribed from one community from rqd2.net and it fixed my issue. But it’s weird that that fixed it since Burggit is still federated with rqd2
Which community was it? I’m curious to see what data the server tries to return, assuming I can reproduce this on my end.
E: I noticed that it’s running 0.19.0. Maybe try another server we’re fed’d with that runs an older version to see if this same behavior happens.
Maybe try another server we’re fed’d with that runs an older version to see if this same behavior happens.
I’m subscribed to other communities on the same server so it was weird that subbing to that one specific community crashes the app.
This appears to be an app issue, then. I scrolled through my subscribed feed on the Boost app and even found a post from that community, and no crashes occurred there. Nothing I can do about it, I’m afraid. I guess report the issue to the maintainer and hope that you don’t get banned for the contents of the report (lol)?
It outright crashes. The logs don’t show the instance trying to send anything when it happens, so it’s purely a client-sided issue… Do try another community from an instance that’s fed’d that runs an older version of Lemmy to see if it happens with that one too (If you can find one.)
Running into heavy packet loss again for the moment…
Seems it’s resolved for now.
Seems like the server was down for a bit (or there was packet loss mentioned above) earlier. I tried checking the Kbin and Matrix space for any updates on whether it was down for maintenance, but both also failed to load. Do the Lemmy, Kbin, and Matrix space all sit on the same box/server (such that an outage on one causes all three to go down), or could the issue have been on my end?
There’s been a DDoS hitting my host. It’s not directed at us since it’s hitting the /24 subnet. Not sure if you are on my home server, but I suggest getting an alt if you want to get on there, if this is the case. I can’t decouple the Matrix home server from the Burggit VPS because the domain is needed to point at the Burggit VPS.
Heyho i think the federation is broken, i wanted to check the state of my communitys from a profile on redthat and it says the content cant be found (checked on different instances that didn’t defederate and same there)
Seems like i cant find anything from burggit in general. Has been in that state for at least 2 days now, though it may be temporary but seems otherwise now.
I think I figured out the problem. Need to give it a while for federation to catch up.
Ah, seems like it 👍 thanks
