Turns out the reply in my thread telling me the best way to combat not caring about Linux is to care about Linux was absolutely correct.
I picked up a laptop, installed Linux Mint Cinnamon, and I’m already obsessed. I haven’t had this much fun with a PC in a long time and it’s just a cheapo Dell Inspiron 3520.
I would like to tell you that everyone on lemmy hates your laptop keyboard. Please get a mechanical one.
I primarily use my laptop on my lap, so I’m not sure how an external keyboard would fit into that setup.
I was just making a joke, but I use xinput to disable my laptop keyboard and put my 60% on top. But I was not seriously recommending you change your keyboard.
I feel a bit like Groucho when it comes to keyboards. If you want my honest advice, I don’t trust your judgement.
One step at a time…
Bad take but I do prefer my keyboards to have big nipples
Let 'em cook!
The Openrazer driver suite combined with Polychromatic is better than the official razer stuff on windows. Less bloated and actually works properly. The only issue I had was needing remapper software to intercept mouse4 and mouse5 from my trackball for compatibility with Firefox forward/backward gestures. Same issue I had with the trackpad.
Very cool. What did you use for a remapper?

Works like a charm.
Man, I wish there was a laptop you could fit a mechanical keyboard to!
