I feel like 75% of Mastodon are people talking about Linux. If you don’t care about Linux you feel alienated. I enjoy Mastodon and Lemmy, but the lack of more diverse subjects gets to me if I browse for too long.

Update: I took your advice and purchased a laptop for Linux, and now I care about it! Problem solved.

Literally all I ever suggested was they were limiting their interest in tech by choosing to not be interested in how it works, since lots of tech runs on Linux.

Everyone else jumped down my throat and was like “Don’t make us learn shit, we’re happy being dumbfucks!”

    Excuse the fuck outta me.

Finally, I literally work with people who can’t afford to go to Geek Squad or where-the-fuck-ever because it’s actually usually quite a lot more than $10 to actually get it fixed.

Because 99% of people will never touch anything that exclusively runs on Linux. Windows is the best OS for the majority. Only people who are really dedicated should move to Linux

Android is a Linux variant, and last I checked, is the fucking major player in the smartphone OS market with 70% of market share. What the fuck are you smoking?

Tons of people have Linux in their pocket already.

Yet it’s so abstracted they’ll never know it.

Android is Linux in the same way MacOS is Linux. Technically it’s based on it, but it’s far from the original platform

Yo, stop it with the personal attacks. You’re not helping your argument at all. It just shows how much you’re projecting on this argument. Calm down, look at this from an objective view.

MacOS is unix, but it sure isn’t Linux, doesn’t function like Linux and is nothing like using Linux. Just like android.

For someone who doesn’t want to learn about any of this, you clearly haven’t. The personal attack was exasperation at having to explain things to you that you keep misunderstanding because you’re so dedicated to not knowing. Like, fine, it’s great that you don’t know, but now you’re literally wading into things you admit you don’t know and are making specious arguments and wrong statements and yet still think I should take anything you say on the subject with any seriousness.

MacOS is unix, but it sure isn’t Linux, doesn’t function like Linux and is nothing like using Linux

UNIX and Linux literally aren’t the same thing, which was the point I was making! I’m getting upset not because of projection but because you’re so uneducated about this subject that you keep saying categorically dumb fucking shit my man!

MacOS isn’t abstracted from Linux because it isn’t fucking Linux and that difference matters, and the fact that you don’t understand that is proof of why you maybe shouldn’t be fucking talking about it.

Finally, all OSes are abstracted. That’s called a Graphical User Interface. What even is this argument? Because it’s not all command line only, people don’t need to know how it works? Windows is also abstracted, surprise!

Enjoy your block. You’re not interested in any sort of good faith argument. You just want to gatekeep people who really don’t give a flying fuck about what OS is used

lmao have fun continuing to not know shit.

I’m pretty sure it’s clear to anyone who understands how any of this works who was arguing in good faith here versus someone pulling arguments out of their ass about things they clearly don’t even understand.

                    EDIT: lmao lmao lmao

                    https://9to5google.com/2023/11/09/amazon-android-fire-tv-report/

So soon, literally anyone with Amazon devices will have another Linux operating system in their hands. But nobody uses Linux or something! Or it’s too abstracted, so who cares! What a load.
