I’m not saying particular genres, we all have our less desired musical genres, I mean music in general.
When I was a child I was very confident to say that I hated music, all kinds, and my cousin used to say that was not possible.
Turns out he was right, and I only hated the teenage music my sister from the 90s used to listen to.
Secretly I enjoyed soundtracks and OSTs from several media, such as animes (digimon openings and battle themes for example) and some TV shows or even videogames.
Then my taste “evolved” and pretty much stayed at rock, heavy metal and alike.
So that little memory lane inspired me to ask about this.
I hate 100% of modern music and about 90% of old music.
My playlist is like:
Beatles and Pink Floyed are tolerateable.
And I apologize for anything I misspelled anywhere above.
What specifically about music is it that you don’t like? And what is it specifically about those particular songs that makes you like them?
Well, I tend to see music as an instrument that allows you to feel certain feelings. If the music gives off negative vibes, it probably means the person dislikes it.
Somebody must have beat our guy with a radio while top 40 music was blasting from it
I think they are the only ones where both the music and the lyrics are good. Good music actually fits well with the song and actually changes as the song moves along, and good lyrics (in my opinion) should describe a moment in time rather than a whole story.
There are many other songs that fit this category, but I am really picky about it and some are to boring and others are just not the type of vibe I like.
Mozart (or other classical) is for the cases where I had enough of songs and just want some music in my ears.
Mountain King beats any movie action music, not to practical when just listing to, but really good for imagination.
You know nothing of modern music if that’s your opinion lol
You think people stopped composing music like that? No, other genres just became more popular. Your playlist is just the songs that survived the test of time. There’s artists making pretty much every type of music right now.
“Modern” isn’t a genre
Those artists are close to impossible to find. If you know a website where you can actually get some good songs out of your already existing playist please tell me.
SoundCloud and Bandcamp is where it’s at. Pretty much all I listen to. When I find an artist, I follow them and see what they’re listening to. I admittedly have been doing this for over a decade so I’ve got a curated feed that would be hard to replicate. Then there’s whole artist “crews” like Vulfpek who have solo projects and collaborate with a million other similar artists.
People often think of listening to music as a secondary activity but really it’s a hobby. There’s just… So much music out there. Once you start to narrow down the genres you really like, you get a better understanding of what you look for.
Another tip when you find a new release you really like…Google em. There’s still a ton of music blogs and if you find one talking about someone you like, you’ll likely find even more. It’s a compounding effect, too
Give me a couple of your favorite artists/songs and tell me specifically what you like about them and I’ll see if I can get you started. Feel free to tell me some aspects you *don’t" like in music, too
Well, you still like music then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For many people out there, the music preferences I have are as good as none. My choice can’t be described by a particular category and is completely cherry picked. There isn’t much correlation between the band or the time the song was written and whether I like it.
