This reminds me of a lecture on gender roles in ancient Rome. The one quality that keeps getting repeated (and put into head stones of woman’s graves) is that they are/were a 'good spinster’i.e. Romans wanted their wives making wool for fabric.
Ofc it wasn’t purely about that, it was a common phrase that was about their standing, general behavior and such. But it stayed with me as it’s such a great way of showing how arbitrary the praise of ‘confirming to societal role’ is.
