According to Brazilian media, an increment was decreed which raises the minimum wage from 1412 reais (228 dollars) to 1518 reais (245 dollars).

The minimum wage adjustment took into account inflation over the last 12 months (4.84%), marking a 2.5% real increase.

I know international leftists love Lula, but for context the minimum wage increases every year since 1994, based on GDP growth and inflation (yes, even in the Bolsonaro years, though he fucked it up 2 times). So y’all shouldn’t be surprised, this happens every year.

What is different now is that the Lula administration approved a set of fiscal austerity changes, one of which imposed a ceiling on the growth of the minimum wage to those 2.5%. Without that the actual value would be R$ 1.528, a small decrease but still a defeat for social policy.

So this is actually somewhat bad news, though I understand people from the US might be impressed by the concept of inflation-adjusted minimum wage.

Yup. And people praising Lula for reducing deforestation when the level of deforestation is still not below that under Bolsonaro

It is very mild, yeah, and it is to be expected of social democrats, especially Lula, who is particularly lukewarm compared to Petro, or the Frente Amplio in Uruguay

Its nothing at all. Its less than 4 reais a day, cant do shit with it. Prices are rising like crazy, like coffee has incresed almost 100% since Lula took office. Lula also put a cap on how much the minimum wage can increase. Its getting harder and harder to support Lula

Yeah, it’s getting to imperial core-level bs (looking at PSOE). At least with Boric I would say I saw it coming from the start (though maybe not that level of bootlicker)

I suppose you mean PSOL, to wich i respond “Fuck PSOL”. Its the NGO-Washington-Identitarian party. And yeah, Boric received way too much positive coverage from the mass media, makes you raise an eyebrow

No, I mean the Spanish socdem party (which is saying the most progressive socdems in the EU for some reason). The only thing they did in like 5 years is raising min wage to catch up with inflation and subsidizing landlords

They also just aproved a cap on the growth of minimum wage as well. I think it was about 2% max per year. The Brazilian congress is fully controled by the right by the way.

Although Lula can appoint a few of the minister how he wants the majority must be appointed by the right in congress, else they block everything Lula tries and then do even worse things than normal.

Lula could get the people on the streets to try to put pressure in at least somethings though but doesn’t do it at all.
