President-elect Donald Trump has named Pam Bondi, the former attorney general of Florida, to be U.S. attorney general just hours after his other choice, Matt Gaetz, withdrew his name.
Trump built a broad coalition of alienated elements to push him over the finish line and now that he’s across it, it hardly helps him to stick his neck out to support them.
Then there is congress beyond that. The senate and house may have a majority of republicans, but they have elections they need to win in 2 to 4 years, and many of them don’t really care about the people in the coalition trump has built. They only need to support those elements that will be important to them winning future elections.
