UPDATE: The upper checkbox seems to flip browser.translations.enable in about:config. Librewolf even demands you do a full browser restart after unchecking. Combined with the name of the property, I think it’s a win for you! I mean, that this thing really disables translations from ever executing.

UPDATE 2: Admittedly it’s not pre-disabled though. But clearly exposed in the settings.

Noteworthy, Librewolf pre-disables the AI nonsense for you. (Local offline translations, the only actually useful feature that uses LLMs, is kept.)

For 2024, I think there was only the option to pay a percentage of your wealth (notional a.k.a. fictious return). That’s what I had when I was filling my tax declaration at least. Small correction here. If we take 2024 as an example, then 6.04% is your fictious income, and you pay 36% of that as taxes, so the actual tax is 6.04 * 0.36 = 2.1744%. In other words, if you want to multiply 36% by something, it should be 6.04% not the “result” of around 2% that I’ve mentioned.

That aside, it’s quite sad to me that you have to pay the LOWEST of the two amounts now (and maybe retrospectively even 2024). That seems to favor already rich people even more. That’s not how it should be… I wonder if addressing this is in any of the political parties’ programs?

Huh? It’s literally wealth tax. Your total wealth is taken in, then an assumed profit is calculated by taking a fixed percentage of wealth, to get the value of your tax. It’s approximately 2%. So if your total worth previous year was 1 million and now it is 1 million, you pay 2% of 1 million = 20’000 EUR tax.

By comparison, Germany has “profits” tax. Whatever your wealth, if you haven’t sold anything in a year, you pay 0 tax. If you have sold something, then you pay a percentage of your “win” (difference between purchase price and sell price).

I’ve found that the other replies don’t really express my personal take on this, so I’ll go ahead and write mine down.

First of all, and it’s important, people’s take on such topics is heavily dependent on the country they live in. It’s legitimately hard to imagine why you would want to break government rules hard and be a good person if you live somewhere in Norway. And it’s legitimately hard to imagine a world where you really trust your government and think that the current levels of censorship is actually good if you live in a dictatorship country.

With this in mind, a comfortable and universal level of censorship simply doesn’t exist.

I think the lack of Tor support is valid criticism if you’re in a dictatorship. Of course, DNS-based solutions are not good-enough for you. I hope you’ll find something that solves your problems. Unfortunately a simple Lemmy instance is not a solution for you.

Generally, if I’d advise something, I’d suggest to look at what the project actually aims to do, not at what you think it should be doing. E.g. visit https://join-lemmy.org/ and there it says:

Well, does it sound like a solution made for people in heavily censored environments? To me – not. If you want to present your case and incentivize the Lemmy devs to ADD another perspective or direction to the software that they’re spending time developing, prepare your case and argumentation well. Explain your situation (e.g. “I’ll be hung if I speak freely where I live”, or more relevant, “my country heavily DNS-censors 90% of the good existing Lemmy instances, I’m deprived of good information you have circling here”), propose some solutions or offer help. Do you know if RustDesk is a fully open-source project? I don’t get their pricing plan idea for Self-Hosted. It also doesn’t seem to be packaged for Debian or Ubuntu. Is it really, fully, developed in the open as an open-source project?

Personally, I never open anything from the “X” platform. Using a platform that belongs to a person that makes Nazi salutes is unacceptable for my standards.

1. I’ll prepare for sacrifices. I should not blame the Open-Source alternatives that they’re not on par with Android yet. It was Android’s decision to become more closed, and I’ll keep remembering it.

2. I’ll start using my PinePhone that I already own anyway. I’ve used it for a while, but there was less push for me to use back then. Without F-Droid, I’ll press myself hard to adapt to PinePhone and will just stay there until it improves. I have 1-2 decades of experience of using non-mainstream software and see it improve with time. I’ll learn. I’ll adapt.

This is disrespectful to common sense.

The number of people KILLED in the mentioned Gulags is in the millions. The total number of killed by the regime is estimated as ~~20 million people. The number of people imprisoned in the US is just a bit north of a million.

Having a mass murderer on a picture and trying to picture it as “wasn’t as bad as the US now” is distasteful. Have self-respect, spend effort and verify the numbers. Think critically about the picture you’re thinking to upvote.

P.S. I’m not a US citizen or resident. In terms of freedoms, both the Soviet Union was terrible, and a lot of the events happening in the US right now are terrible.
