Ok but what if they cannot pay 80% less for one made in China?

n_emoo@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•80 Teslas damaged at Hamilton dealership, largest car vandalism reported in Canada against the U.S. company | CBC NewsEnglish1·23 days agoThe other commentator is right. Its easy to tell someone “just sell your car and walk” or whatever when you are not directly affected by the change you are asking someone else to make. Take a second and think of all the injustices in the world YOU are indirectly, involuntarily complicit in and what it might mean to be targeted for that reason. It is for this we offer charity to others, and therein is a clear line between wearing a nazi pin as a symbol and driving a Tesla, literally an appliance.
n_emoo@lemmy.cato politics @lemmy.world•Tesla’s stock is plummeting. So is the Bay Area’s respect for its vehicles1·1 month agoInteresting point. I thought about this a little and I suppose what separates a strike from this would be what is an organized opposition to a system vs. a targeted attack on individuals.
n_emoo@lemmy.cato politics @lemmy.world•Tesla’s stock is plummeting. So is the Bay Area’s respect for its vehicles2·1 month agoCrazy take. You dont have agency to address real issues (money in politics, correctly taxing gains, lack of good leadership and social infrastructure) so lets lash out at other wage earners who have more in common with you.
n_emoo@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada proposes 100% tariffs on Tesla, I have an alternative: open the door to Chinese EVs2·1 month agoChinese EVs are already being sold worldwide. We can either choose to “stand with” western auto manufacturers, or let free market do its thing. In this scenario it only makes sense to play both sides and offer people some economic relief.
n_emoo@lemmy.cato Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada proposes 100% tariffs on Tesla, I have an alternative: open the door to Chinese EVs101·1 month agoI dont think anyone is advocating for lowering auto safety standards to allow Chinese EVs on roads. Lets be realistic in acknowledging that Chinese made vehicles are already in use in many parts of the world and provide comparable security and privacy standards as their American counterparts (viz. None).
n_emoo@lemmy.cato Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why don't social media and the web in general implement asymmetric key signing to always be able to verify the source of a content, thus eliminating the risk of deep fakes and fake news?11·2 months agoDeepfakes are about impersonating the person in the video, fake news is… Well, just someone lying. Signatures are meant to verify the source of information, not the contents of it.
Simple example, we can be nearly 100% confident that the person posting tweets under the Trump account is (atleast authorized by) Trump. Doesnt stop him from lying nor uploading a deepfake video.
Call the offices of James P Alibini and see of they handle hate crimes first.
Im guessing adding plugins is part of your default workflow when installing browsers somehow. Ublock origin is the most used plugin on firefox Id reckon, but a fresh install doesnt carry it.

n_emoo@lemmy.cato Casual Conversation @lemm.ee•If we counted the years from 753BC (the founding of Rome) like the Romans did, then it would be the year 2,777.English2·5 months agoLots of fun sounding ideas there. Only one I dislike is the 14 month with 26 days, since “letters of alphabet” is very arbitrary and biased to English. I personally like the simpler 13 month 28 days design, since that also equates to the lunar cycles used since ancient times.
n_emoo@lemmy.cato Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Has Highest Rate of Deadly Accidents Among Car Brands, Study FindsEnglish94·5 months agoHard disagree on this one. The regenerative braking has a learning curve yes, but the pros outweigh the cons imo. When you brake (in a traditional car or an EV), you are wearing out yor brake pads, turning friction into heat. Done right, renerative braking means almost all energy is captured back, and even lower maintenance by not bothering the brake pad.
It takes getting used to, you hate it at first, which is why tesla has an option to disable it, but there is a reason why most people who own Teslas use it, and other EVs are getting it as well.
Im not the original poster that you replied to. Then again Im not thinking from a “democrats” perspective since theyre not my party, and Im not a US citizen.
Why though? Isnt part of living in a democracy an obligation to be well informed and making the correct choice, depending on whatever your ideological beliefs might be?
If inflation is hurting my family, isn’t the proper course of action for me to figure out what the causes and possible short and long term solutions are? Why is the onus on the politician to wow me with buzzwords in a 10 second tiktok, which ultimately will be half truth at best? If anything I need to follow up with more rigor and view their platforms and their past records.
I get it, its too much work. I get it, the Democrats did horrible messaging on multiple fronts. Kamala was definitely reserved and filtered in all her appearances and facing an uneven playing field.
But to absolve 80 million voters (a second time) by saying “theyre just angry you see, they dont know any better where to direct this anger to” is unfair.
n_emoo@lemmy.catoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•I'd like to think they're all just Russian trolls but increasingly, I think some people are just selfish or dumb.1·6 months agoI disagee a bit here. The reason democrats shift to the right is not because of some intrinsic values and republicans and democrats carry. It is due to the sustained (false or cherry picked) propaganda by the right to create issues from nothing (migrant crime, trans issues), and the lack of response by the democrats to this messaging. Mind you Im not talking about the Election cycle, Im talking about the 3 years in between. The reason they didnt tilt right towards issues like abortion is because we have been hammering the counter message for 2 or 3 years, ever since Roe is overturned.
When youve already ceded ground with the public perception that we have immigrant crime, you have no option but to tackle the “perceived” problem by being tough on immigration.

That said, this is not the action I would take, there are far too many things wrong with the Rs right now.
n_emoo@lemmy.catoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•I'd like to think they're all just Russian trolls but increasingly, I think some people are just selfish or dumb.62·6 months agoI just did. I think they should cave (and vote Harris), but the rest of the crowd needs to spend time on drawing concessions from Harris instead of alienating the left. It might just be that the dems are way past redemption with their recent Liz Cheney tours.
