  • Given that the regime is corrupt billionaires, crashing the economy to punish them is not that terrible of an idea. It won’t take much to push the U.S. into a depression. Everything is setup for one: Massive wealth inequality, deregulation, corruption at the highest levels, government agencies losing functions, international trade wars, etc.

The political changes that made America the power it is was in response to the 1929 depression. Massive government restructuring, creation and expansion of social programs, unionization, infrastructure construction, high taxes on extreme wealth, antitrust regulation and enforcement etc. historians often quote that WW2 was what brought America out of the depression, but it’s really not true. It sped up the processes that had been building for 10 years under FDR.

  • I have the only family heirloom I want. It’s a cutting from my grandmother’s monstera.

My grandmother is a miserable person who I have not spoken to in decades (racist, untra-religious). However some of my earliest childhood memories were of playing with my army men in her monstera’s leaves. It was small and abused looking back then. She kept it in a dark corner without enough light. When I was around 13 year old, I cut off 2 nodes and 1 leaf and started my own plant from it.

I have almost lost it a few times over the years. Scab, frost, kids, bacterial infections, a couple years overseas relying on someone else to care for it etc. Every time it’s come back, started again and kept going.

  • Few things:

First off find out the age of the well and the pipes.

The water is very soft and acidic (low pH). This means that if the pipes/well casing are slowly being disolved. That’s likely why the iron is high. If the pipes contain lead anywhere, they are also dissolving the lead.

Only real solution = all new well and 100% plumbing replacement.

If the system is not that old and the groundwater is contaminated , a filtration system is required. Look for a whole house filtration system.

Either way it’s an expensive fix. I would get some experts out to diagnose the issue. Then require the seller to pay for the necessary fixes as a contigency on your offer.

  • I have a work phone and a personal phone. The work phone i answer calls from I known numbers all the time. My contact information gets passed around as part of my business. For a while I had scammers hitting my number 3-4 times per day. I answered and fucked with them every time. A little free stress relief through the day. Now I almost never get them anymore.

My personal phone I have always screened all the calls. It still gets hit with scammers 2-3 times per week.

I guess you are right. There is a list going around of numbers who waste their time.

  • It’s actively destroying their search ability as well.

My 15 year old son got a lesson in not trusting Google search yesterday. He wanted pizza for dinner so I had him call a chain and order it. So he hit the call button on the AI bullshit section and ordered it.

When we got there we found out that every phone number listed on the summary was scrambled. He ordered a pizza at a place 150 miles away.

When you clicked into the webpage or maps the numbers were right. On the AI summary, it was all screwed up.

  • Verbage:

Profit: An advantageous gain or return; benefit.

I was using the more common definition of the word, not the annoying accountant one.

Accountant profit: Financial gain from a transaction or from a period of investment or business activity, usually calculated as income in excess of costs or as the final value of an asset in excess of its initial value.

Of course the laws will have to be written in such a way that removes the ability of leeches to make financial gains on the back of other people.

  • I did the same thing last year when I was buying my college aged kid a car. I also eliminated any vehicle that has goofy stupid controls that caused you to look away from the screen.

I ended up with the Mitsubishi outlander sport. It’s one of the best designed vehicles I have seen in the past 20 years. The ratings on it are of course horrible to say the least.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/mitsubishi/outlander-sport

It’s a vehicle that’s comfortable to drive, easy to see out of with large windows, large mirrors, and all the good basics on the infotainment center. It has physical controls for everything else. The engine and transmission have a long warranties and no issues with reliability. It also has a very tight turning radius that makes it really easy to park and drive around downtown.

What’s even better, pop the hood and give it an oil change etc. Its really easy to work on.

  • I got my license in the U.S. when I was 16. Then in my early 20’s I lived in England for few years. I was able to drive on my U.S. license for a year. During that year I had to go through the process to get an english license to drive in the country after that. I did the whole learners permit, driving lessons, etc that first year.

Let’s just say it was much, much, harder to get a driving license in England. I had driven over 100K miles in the U.S and 10K miles in the U.K by the time I took the test and I still barely passed it.
