Maybe, but a wider point is that the gambit also seemed to rely on Mark joining Lumon in the first place. Which seem like a jump for them to make.

Skavau@lemm.eeto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Weekly thread - How are you doing with your communities?English7·3 days ago!television@lemm.ee had a downturn of new member growth, but suddenly surged in last 2 days (from like +5 in two days to +20). Still plugging away. Most posts get comments and engagement.
!obscuremusic@lemm.ee plugging away similarly. Obviously is much slower.
Skavau@lemm.eeto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Potential consolidation of strategy video games communitiesEnglish2·3 days agoMaybe, but it’s still worth keeping both RTS and Turn based strategy on hold for when/if the community grows. I’d argue the optimum scenario is to double-post all strategy-game related posts to a “strategy” parent community, and then post as relevant to RBS/TBS
Skavau@lemm.eeto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Potential consolidation of strategy video games communitiesEnglish6·4 days agoTbf Real time strategy and turn based strategy are different and could exist separately
RTS and Realtimestrategy are the same ofc
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish2·5 days agoSorry, yes. Communities. My head still uses “instances” to refer to “communities”.
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish1·5 days agoI’m building a big nesting system on the Piefed rn. In any tagging system you make I could literally cut and paste them to communities if you trust me to do that.
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish1·5 days agoWell a tagging system would just allow multiple tags. I suppose you could also build a tag hierarchy system.
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish1·5 days agoWell presumably this on Lemmyverse would just be a tagging system at core, right? Not a nesting system.
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish4·6 days agoYeah, got it. Thanks (as you know)
Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish2·6 days agoAlso, when you return - I’ve identified a bug with nesting. If you’ve got a Discord or Matrix chat or something it’d be easier to show it in screenshots.

EDIT, oh you’re the dev of piefed lol. Well I assume you can see what I’m doing then

Skavau@lemm.eeOPto Fedigrow@lemm.ee•Hypothetical: Lemmyverse Categorisation SystemEnglish5·6 days agoI actually can use piefed with this, and tie in custom feeds to a community but many names are taken

In other words, start from generalist communities, and create more specialized ones when there is a need. Do you agree?English1·6 days agoYeah television@lemm.ee isn’t there so its a bit outdated (as is television@lemmy.world still there) so its very outdated. I get the concept tho.

In other words, start from generalist communities, and create more specialized ones when there is a need. Do you agree?English3·6 days agoOh, I forgot about this site. I certainly can use it to do proof-of-concept for ideas here, but I’m thinking more of beyond me. A wider-used tool (and imo with more/better categories)

In other words, start from generalist communities, and create more specialized ones when there is a need. Do you agree?English9·6 days agoI suppose part of the problem with many nicher community concepts is that on here, for many, it is often screaming into the abyss. You can’t keep a flow of content going in many cases. Meaning it just sits there quietly. And if someone down the line happens to join lemmy and be interested, it’s conceivable they’ll see the small community you made, think its dead, and then make their own. I think niche communities can work, but there needs to be a way for the owner to post new content every day without just seeming to talk to themselves. My ObscureMusic community works in that sense because I have a large amount of obscure music that (if anyone’s noticed) I’m going down alphabetically lol.
I actually think the answer to this is that lemmy needs some kind of built-in categorisation system.
Skavau@lemm.eeto Community Promo@lemmy.ca•30 active communities which are not politics, news, memes or techEnglish1·6 days agoCan you update !showsandmovies@lemm.ee to !television@lemm.ee
It’s moved.
Maybe. But I’d like it if we had a few more instances of severed disappeared people on the basement floor rather than just Ms. Casey to reflect that it’s something beyond just one person.
